Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning play androgynous Joan Jett and bombshell Cherie Currie, respectively, in this edgy drama about the 1970s girl group. Their rebellious rise is powerful and inspiring as the rockers fight for recognition in the music scene, back when girls were expected to be groupies, not the main attraction. Fanning has the flashier part as a stardom-seeking blonde -- her vocals shine, too -- but Stewart also nails her role as a punk chick who's a far cry from Twilight's Bella. It's a fun, gritty insider's look at a neglected slice of rock history. (Sony, $28)
