Review | Taking Woodstock
RELEASE DATE: Friday 8/28
Director Ang Lee's (Brokeback Mountain) sleepy period piece about Woodstock (with no concert footage!) follows the true story of a closeted designer (Demetri Martin) who opened his parents' motel to the festival's promoters in 1969 -- then found his mojo in the era's sex and drugs.
While good-natured, the dramedy’s middlebrow direction and writing project a theme-park version of the epic music event that makes the gathering seem almost irrelevant.
