‘The Real Housewives of New York City’ Recap: Jules Wainstein Complains About Her Marriage, Luann de Lesseps Is ‘Done’ With Ramona Singer

Love is a battlefield, especially in the Big Apple. On the Wednesday, June 29, episode of The Real Housewives of New York City, newbie Jules Wainstein found herself saddened by the state of her marriage, while Sonja Morgan came face-to-face with the reality that hers had truly ended. However, Luann de Lesseps was running around town declaring she was “engaged to be engaged” to Tom (whom Sonja continued to claim had been one of her most loyal, umm, friends with benefits over the years).

Before any of that, however, it was time to eat — or not to eat. That was the question.

Jules Fills a Calzone with Cutlery

Bethenny Frankel, Dorinda Medley, Carole Radziwill and Ramona Singer met Jules for a quasi-cooking class, which involved them putting toppings on pizzas while they sat at a nicely appointed table in a restaurant dining room. Things started nicely enough with Bethenny and Jules swapping war stories about their health troubles involving their lady parts, but the room turned a bit icy when Jules joked about putting drugs on her pizza. (Apparently, Jules takes Adderall on the regular, but had also been prescribed Percocet and lidocaine for her recent injury.)

Jules was seated next to Carole and proceeded to make a smattering of mostly unsolicited comments about how she didn’t focus on her weight or eating, that she sees a therapist twice a week even though she has “nothing” to talk about anymore since her eating disorder is in the past, and that she weighs approximately 115 pounds. “She’s even crazier than I thought,” Carole quipped to the camera. And Bethenny speculated, “She looks like she weighs 115 ounces!”

When the cooked pizzas were brought back to the table for the meal, a calzone was placed in the middle. Jules had prepared it, and she encouraged everyone to dig in. “Unless I took LSD, there was a fork, a knife and a stainless steel cup inside the calzone,” Bethenny explained. Jules thought it was a hilarious joke, but the other ladies just thought it was weird.

Jules Confides About Her Marital Woes to Dorinda

Dorinda stopped by Jules’ place to catch up. The conversation started with Dorinda encouraging Jules to tell Bethenny to cool it with the side comments, but it quickly turned to the state of Jules’ (unraveling) marriage. Jules recounted that on the day of her accident, she called her husband, Michael, “100 times,” but he wasn’t answering his phone. She then confessed that Michael took nearly six hours to show up at the hospital, which Dorinda said was inexcusable.

“You’re not feeling valued,” Dorinda offered, prompting Jules to add that when she’d returned home from the hospital, she got to work making dinner for the kids, prepping lunches and cleaning up — and just as she was about to sit down to dinner, Michael asked her if she was going to give the kids a bath (because he didn’t know how). Dorinda tried to console Jules by explaining that men think women are “superhuman” and can do it all, but confessed to the camera that she felt Jules’ “loneliness.”

For her part, Jules told the camera, “I wish Michael would step up to the plate a little bit. It would be nice if I had a partner.” Given that they have since announced their divorce, it doesn’t appear to have worked out for her.

Sonja Struggles to Let Go of Her Past

Continuing her role as BFF to pretty much everyone, Dorinda then stopped by Sonja’s townhouse to help her clean out her basement. As they combed through old blowdryers and plush toys, Sonja became really emotional and went from joking that she was a “high-class hoarder” to admitting she was having trouble letting go of the past.

She insisted it wasn’t about her ex-husband. “I’m over him, but I’m not over being in that family situation,” she lamented. Dorinda told Sonja she had to be because that was behind her. “Each stuffed animal reminds me of when I had a family,” Sonja cried to the camera in a rare, self-reflective moment.

It did turn out one thing was changing for the better in Sonja’s world, however. She and Bethenny had been texting each other, and sounded like they were on the path toward a reconciliation over Tipsy Girl (not to be confused with Skinnygirl!).

Bethenny Breaks Down

It seemed that Bethenny’s impending surgery to remove fibroids (among other issues) was putting things into perspective for the mogul. During her pre-op, the doctor had broken the news that she would be in the hospital for three full days, and her recovery would be a lengthy six weeks. That was a big enough blow, but apparently the doc had also asked her if she had a living will. That really freaked her out.

“I don’t want to be dealing with this right now,” she sighed. “I don’t want to be thinking about this.” She reflected on how she had no real family to speak of, besides her daughter, Brynn, and wondered what would happen to her if something didn’t go right in the operating room. It seemed like more than Bethenny could take as she broke down in tears.

Luann Is Really Excited About Getting Married

No, she wasn’t engaged — yet. But it was bound to happen soon! (Just ask her!) During a gathering with Jules and Michael, along with Sonja, Dorinda, Ramona and Luann’s daughter, Victoria, Luann was clearly still on cloud nine over her relationship with Tom. “I say that I’m engaged to be engaged,” she cooed before revealing they had been looking at rings together. Sonja still thought Lu and Tom were likely to be “two ships passing in the night,” but kept that to herself … for the time being, at least.

When Ramona tried to pull Lu aside to give her some advice about how to make up with Bethenny and Carole, Luann snapped, “Do I look like a woman who gives a flying leap?” Ramona then got annoyed, saying she’d given Lu the ball, and she’d fumbled it by not following through on making peace.

“I am in love with a man that I’m going to marry,” Luann replied, prompting Ramona to ask what that had to do with anything. (For once, Ramona had a point.) Ramona then encouraged Luann to meet Carole for a cup of tea.

“I love you, but I’m done,” Lu said before storming off and then declaring that Carole would not be invited to her wedding. “Sonja is invited,” Luann added. “To hell with the rest of those bitches!”
