Shape Editor: LeAnn Rimes Cover Was "a Terrible Mistake"

Though LeAnn Rimes' controversial interview in the October issue of Shape generated tons of press for the magazine, its editor-in-chief regrets putting the country singer on its cover.

In the interview, the singer opened up for the first time about why she cheated on husband Dean Sheremet with actor Eddie Cibrian, who was also married at the time.
"My relationship with Dean was great, but ultimately it wasn't a fulfilling marriage for either of us," Rimes, 28, told the mag. "I understand why people are disappointed in me, especially since I grew up as America's sweetheart."

In an e-mail obtained by TooFab, editor-in-chief Valerie Latona apologized to readers who felt that Rimes was a poor cover choice.
"You are all in good company...as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover," Latona explained. "Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment."

Despite the magazine's efforts, Latona acknowledges that "it did not come across that way...And for that I'm terribly sorry. I hope that we can do better the next time for those of you that will give us another chance."

59Please. They both cheated - fine, but she cannot - cannot talk about his kids - they are not an option. She is only allowed to speak about the hunk she landed; nothing else.
Betty, you sound like one jealous witch. You are right about Brad and Angie, they deserve each other. They complement each other and are on the same level in looks, substance, humanitarian efforts, love and etc, etc, etc. Brad is not losing his looks, he is aging beautifully. Leanne didn't hurt no one else but the people involved in her life. If you feel hurt because of what happens to celebrities and their lives, you have serious issues. Believe it or not, sometimes people fall out of love. We don't know what really happened we can only speculate. But to hate a celebrity for being human, that's just wrong. There are alot of other celebrities that have gone the same route, no one seems to mind. Ms. so called megastar, Julia Roberts, Tori Spelling, Kate Beckinsdale, Laura Dern, Claire Danes, Elizabeth Taylor and the list goes on and on.
A lot of people must hate her for the editor to have done that even if she's backtracking now.
The least she could do for the people she hurt is keep her stupid mouth shut. I don't even like to read stuff that has anything to do with this woman. I hope Shape Magazines apologizes to the the people she hurt for putting her like a hero on the mazine. Make me sick!
Oh please! They knew she was an adulteress BEFORE they asked her to pose. So, why make an issue of it now? As for Angelina and Brad...who freaking cares? The two idiots deserve each other. Jennifer seems happy enough now. At least she's not stuck with Brad who is slowly losing his looks.

I agree with "Marian Parker" and want to also add: Why is Rimes held to a different standard than Julia Roberts. Does anyone else remember that Danny Moder was married when he met Julia. Julie broke up a marriage and, for some reason, she gets a pass.

Why is leann Rymes held to a different standard than Angelina Jolie. They both broke up a marriage.If Angelina jolie can be placed on the cover of magazines than so can leann Rymes.They are both cheaters. They both should be black ball from the cover of any magazine.

The problem with people who cheat on their significant others (wives, husbands, pregnant girlfriends) is their complete lack of respect for the relationship that they had, in one way or another, committed to (marriage or kids). If this list of celebs who had cheated/broken up marriages, had had the self-control to wait until the relationship was over before moving on, it wouldn't be an issue. If it's not the right marriage, fine, finish it and then move on. But sleeping around, flaunting a new relationship before finalizing a divorce is tasteless. Maybe I'd be more impressed by how working out "saved" LeAnn if she needed to be saved from something other than her own bad decisions.
Dear US magazine....the editor of INSHAPE has printed a very nice apology and adds a little understanding to the magazines comments...care to print that so people can read their side?

Wow...I can totally picture how this all went down in the corporate office. This person is being forced to apologize or she loses her job. I loved the article and cover. It was nice to read a real interview with a real story instead of gossip. I'm tired of people acting like LeeAnn should wear a Scarlet Letter and be dumped on the side of the road because of what happened. She is still a beautiful woman that deserves happiness and success in life. Move forward!
Like Shawn, my issue with LeeAnn is the way she continues to handle herself. With that said, I don't think the girl should be crucified forever. I hope people move on from this soon but I doubt it since people are still talking about Angelina and Brad six years later. If all of you are going to hate these women, you need to add: Julia Roberts, Lauren Dern ("stole" Ben Harper from his pregnant wife but complains about Angelina "stealing" Billy Bob every chance she gets), Rita Wilson, Kate Capshaw, Joanne Woodward, Joan Collins, Sienna Miller, Tori Spelling, Claire Danes (stole Billy from his pregnant girlfriend), and I'm sure countless others.
No matter what you may think of LeeAnn Rymes, the editor of Shape magazine is a hypocrite and a spineless coward....I noticed this article mentions nothing about the fact that Shape magazine is throwing LeeAnn a party on Nov. 4, celebrating her cover. LeeAnn made choices, maybe not great choices but it is her life....People are all bent out of shape because she cheated on her husband and lands on the cover of a magazine. We had a president (more than one) who cheated on his wife and he gets his face printed on our nations currency. Stop with the double standards and narrow mindedness...the only people who can break up a marraige are the two people who are married. If people cheat it's because something isn't right in the marraige to begin with, and unless it's your marraige breaking up what should you care!!!!
I completely agree with Susie B. If you are unhappy in your marriage, there is no reason to stay, with or without kids. Sorry, but your happiness is just as important as your spouse's and kids'.
