SNL's Bill Hader: My Top 5 Favorite Summer Flicks
With Saturday Night Live's 36th season officially wrapped, comic Bill Hader has plenty of time to stay cool this summer...at the movies!
While flicks like Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and others are sure to dominate the box office this season, Hader, 32, is sticking close to home to watch his favorite flicks as the host of Turner Classic Movies' TCM Essentials Jr., a selection of 13 kid-friendly films perfect for parents to show on school vacation.
Before his showcase premieres June 5, Hader -- dad to 2-year-old Hannah -- gave Us Weekly the scoop on his own must-see summer flicks.
JAWS (1975): It's my favorite summer movie. It's actually my favorite movie, period. I've watched it every 4th of July since I was 13.
EMPIRE OF THE ANTS (1977): For some reason this movie was always the Midnight Movie on Saturday nights when I was growing up. Last summer I caught it again at midnight and it was like a warm blanket. Giant Ants. Joan Collins. Mmmmm.
BETTER OFF DEAD /JUST ONE OF THE GUYS (BOTH 1985): It seemed like at least one day every summer my sisters and I would watch Better Off Dead and Just One of the Guys all day.
KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE (1977): I use to watch this every summer at my grandparents' lake house with my friends. Nothing, nothing is funnier when you're a 12-year old than "A Fistful of Yen." Nothing.
THE EVIL DEAD (1981): I saw this on USA's Up All Night with Rhonda Shear in the early '90s and it scared the crap out of me. One of my favorite horror films.
Hader helps kick off TCM Essentials Jr. with 1938's The Adventures of Robin Hood starting June 5 at 8 p.m. (EST) on TCM.
