Sophie Turner Reacts to Sansa Stark’s ‘Amazing’ First Kill on ‘Game of Thrones’

Warning — spoilers! Do not read on unless you’ve seen the Sunday, June 19, episode of Game of Thrones.

Sansa isn’t sorry! Sophie Turner’s Game of Thrones character, Sansa Stark, had her first kill during the HBO fantasy drama’s shocking “Battle of the Bastards” episode on Sunday, June 19 — and it was a scene to remember.

As previously reported, the series’ most sadistic villain, Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), finally got a taste of his own medicine when Jon Snow (Kit Harington) beat him to within an inch of his life, after Bolton’s army was decimated in battle and Snow recaptured Winterfell. In the final moments of the monumental episode, Sansa stood before her estranged, now-captive husband — who raped and tortured her during their marriage, murdered her brother, Rickon, and many other atrocities too numerous to mention — and vengefully said, “All memory of you will disappear,” before watching him be ripped apart and eaten alive by his own starved hounds.

In a new HBO behind-the-scenes video, Turner, 20, discussed the dramatic scene, which she called “amazing.”

“It’s Sansa’s first kill and it’s such a strong moment for her because all her life she’s been affected by these men who have just done such terrible things to her,” she said. “She’s always carried it with her and this is the first moment you hear her say, ‘Your words will disappear. Your name will disappear. All memory of you will disappear.’”

Game of Thrones executive producer D.B. Weiss also opened up about Sansa’s epic first kill, which he says should be a relief for viewers.

“The show doesn’t always give people the things that are going to make them happy, but this felt like a moment that made narrative sense, that they would win this fight and that Ramsay would come into their possession as a prisoner,” he explained. “His dogs were such a thing for him in this season and seasons past, such an extension of his own horrible urges. The idea that they would be turned against him and it would happen at Sansa’s hands made a lot of sense to us.”

Weiss added, “This isn’t the little girl who wanted to dress up like a princess anymore. Her walk away at the end of the scene, that’s one of my favorite shot’s we’ve ever had. Just the little ghost of a smile on her face. She’s in Winterfell, but she’s not the person she once was when she first left.”

The Game of Thrones season finale airs on HBO Sunday, June 26, at 9 p.m. ET.
