Taylor Swift Looks Elated After Losing to Friend Ed Sheeran for Best Song at 2016 Grammys

Taylor Swift‘s surprise face isn’t just reserved when for when she wins! The pop star lost Song of the Year to Ed Sheeran at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards at L.A.’s Staples Center on Monday, February 15, but Swift appeared to be elated that her pal Ed Sheeran beat her. He emerged victorious in the category for co-writing the tune “Thinking Out Loud,” marking his first-ever Grammy win.

As his name was announced, Swift, 26, stood up from her chair to jump up and down and cheer. Swift went to Sheeran, 24, and gave him a hug before he made his way to the stage, and then she joyfully covered her face with her hands, as she often does when she herself wins at awards shows.

She also made her pride clear on Twitter, replying with a simple “YES” to a tweet from the Grammys account announcing Sheeran’s win.

But Swift won’t be leaving empty-handed from the ceremony, having already nabbed wins for best pop album and best music video by the time Sheeran’s victory was announced.

The pair are longtime friends and have toured together as well, with Sheeran opening for her on her Red Tour in 2013.
