Another love story is coming to Mystic Falls. Michael Malarkey, who plays devilish — and oh, so dreamy! — Enzo on The Vampire Diaries, reveals to Us Weekly that there will be another relationship to look forward to besides Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) in Season 7.

“There’s some scenes that have been shot that are very lovely and I think people will be surprised,” Malarkey, 32, tells Us. “There’s a flash forward that happens where we see Enzo with somebody and hopefully we will be able to see those steps retraced in the present day.”

He continues: “There’s some other saucy shenanigans that happen as well. It’s darker, but you also see more kind of a human side to Enzo…I’ve come to really adore this character. It’s a fun ride for me. It’s fun to be a mettlesome badass.”

Enzo has been a sneaky vamp since the start, but isn’t as close to former bestie Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) anymore. That, Malarkey teases, may change. “Ian and I have both missed working together a lot because when I first started on the show all of my stuff was with him,” he tells Us. “We connected immediately and we’re great friends now, so we’re definitely urging the writers to put us together a bit more.”

Enzo won’t be filming any scenes with Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) anytime soon though. Dobrev left the series last season, and Elena is currently, well, asleep until Bonnie (Kat Graham) dies. Her emotional exit of sorts left boyfriend Damon in shambles, but makes fans wonder: Will he find love again?

“It depends on how much Elena was the love of his life and how long it would take somebody to get over that,” Malarkey says. “It would almost make a mockery out of their relationship, if he were to just all of the sudden move on.” He adds: “Or he just has a fling and has a good time and then moves on and is still in love with her.”

Damon’s next move is unknown, but so is Elena’s. Will she ever return? “That’s up to the powers above, obviously, but I think it would be pretty cool to bring it around full circle,” Malarkey tells Us. “She’s definitely missed by everyone, but the show goes on. I feel very confident that this season is still going to spellbind people.”

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
