The Voice’s 5 Craziest Moments: Miley Cyrus Gets Called Out by a Contestant for Flirting With Him

Poor Blake Shelton! The country singer remained empty-handed by the end of The Voice‘s hour-long episode on Monday, September 26, even after a bizarre endorsement from Adam Levine. That wasn’t the only surprise, as Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus made some uncommon picks to add to their individual teams. Season 11 is gearing up to be the season of surprises, and we are all about it.

1. A children’s performer sang a Selena song in Spanish.

Not only did Elia Esparza sing “Como La Flor” by Selena in all Spanish and win over three out of four judges, but the New Yorker has performed about twice a month at children’s birthday parties. His ultra-glamorous life involves dressing up like a princess or a fairy for kids while they eat ice cream cake and jump in bounce houses. A Voice contestant would definitely beat Bozo the Clown for backyard entertainment.

2. Miley flirts with a Louisiana soul singer who screamed on stage.

Lane Mack was a cool cowboy from Louisiana who used his boisterous voice to get Miley to pick him. “You’re stuck with me,” Miley said, as she was the only one who saw through the loud yells to see a Jeff Buckley–esque singer with a soulful tone. It almost seemed like Miley was flirting with Lane, and even Lane picked up on it. “I’m married,” he assured the pop star. Yikes, did Liam Hemsworth watch this?

3. Blake left empty-handed.

Blake Shelton pushed the red button to every singer but one, yet no contestant wanted to work with the country star. Even after he’d tried to sweet-talk Josh Halverson with relatable ranch talk and got a rave review from Karlee Metzger’s mom about how much the singer loved Blake, he got no love in return. Maybe Blake should start gelling his hair like Adam Levine or hot-gluing huge flowers on his jacket to get some singers on his team.

4. Alicia picked a Texas mystery man.

Josh Halverson grew up on ranches and has a country sound, so the last person we’d expect him to pick was R&B singer Alicia. Alicia’s chair stayed turned away from the stage for most of the episode until the end, when Halverson sang a soulful rendition of “Forever Young.” Even Alicia was jumping for joy when he actually chose her over Blake and Miley, so maybe Halverson will bring an R&B flair back to the ranch.

5. Blake and Adam got along?

Blake and Adam spent most of the episode arguing over singers, which isn’t unusual, until the last singer, when all coaches except Adam pushed the button on Halverson’s soulful sound. Adam didn’t stay out of the argument, though, and advised Halverson to join Blake’s team. “I may have never said that in my life,” Adam said after the endorsement. The two celebrated their newfound alliance with a hug, but it still wasn’t enough for Blake to get a new team member. The newfound friendship probably won’t last, since Blake told Adam to “just stay out of it” from now on. Better luck next time, Blake.
