We hardly knew ye! With The Walking Dead season 6 wrapping up, trouble is clearly brewing, as Daryl (Norman Reedus) appeared to get shot at the end of last week's episode, not to mention that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is finally set to appear in all his baseball bat–swinging glory.
Before viewers learn if any more names will be added to the hit AMC drama's lengthy list of casualties, let's take a look at its 10 most devastating character deaths ever.
10. Noah (season 5, episode 14)
Stay cool, Nicholas! Walkers gruesomely devoured Noah (Tyler James Williams) after Nicholas (Michael Traynor) panicked when the two of them got trapped with Glenn (Steven Yeun) inside the rotating doors.
9. Denise Cloyd (season 6, episode 14)
She got the point! Among season 6's devastating twists was Denise (Merritt Wever) catching an arrow in the back of the head that Dwight (Austin Amelio) had fired from Daryl's crossbow.
8. Tyreese Williams (season 5, episode 9)
It will cost you an arm and — well, just an arm. After Noah's reanimated brother bit Tyreese (Chad Coleman), Michonne (Danai Gurira) tried to save him by cutting off his afflicted limb, but he ended up losing too much blood.
7. Lizzie and Mika Samuels (season 14, episode 14)
Things took a disturbing twist when Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) murdered her sister, Mika (Kyla Kenedy), to see what her personality would be like as a walker. This left Carol (Melissa McBride) with no choice but to kill her adoptive daughter after telling her to stare at the flowers.
6. Dale Horvath (season 2, episode 11)
Tough to stomach. After a walker ripped open Dale's abdomen, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was unable to put Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) out of his misery, so Daryl was forced to be the executioner.
5. Shane Walsh (season 2, episode 12)
That's what you get for coveting thy neighbor's wife! Shane (Jon Bernthal), who had been having an affair with Rick's wife, Lori, planned to kill his former best friend in the woods. But it was Rick who landed the death blow first, plunging a knife into Shane's heart. Carl (Chandler Riggs) then shot Shane in the head after he turned into a walker.
4. Hershel Greene (season 4, episode 8)
The friendly farmer got a sword to the neck from the Governor (David Morissey) for his troubles, despite Rick pleading for leniency after Hershel (Scott Wilson) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) were captured.
3. Merle Dixon (season 3, episode 15)
Oh, brother. Merle (Michael Rooker) attempted to off the Governor, but it went horribly awry, as the villain ended up biting off two of Merle's fingers and then shooting him in the chest. Especially devastating was later watching Daryl tearfully stab his zombified sibling to a second death.
2. Lori Grimes (season 3, episode 4)
Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) dying just after giving birth to Judith via C-section proved devastating for Rick and Carl, who was forced to shoot his own mother when her bleeding wouldn't stop.
1. Beth Greene (season 5, episode 8)
Beth (Emily Kinney) became quite the fan favorite thanks to her close friendship with Daryl. "I get it now," she told Dawn (Christine Woods) right before the police officer shockingly shot Beth in the head after Beth stabbed her with a pair of scissors.
