“Slay Model Management is the world’s first transgender model agency,” an employee says in the trailer. “We are a model agency first, and it’s trans second.”

Jackson tells the camera, “They want a girl that’s 6’2″, 35-25-35. They didn’t ask if you have a penis or not.”

The promo shows the models dealing with tough moments on the job, as one is told, “It’s just not going to happen.” But they also face difficulties when they’re off the clock.

In one difficult scene, De La Cruz tells a loved one, “It just seems like you just don’t even try. … You’re ashamed of me.” Another clip shows Spriggs discussing her friction with her dad.

In a previously released statement about the series, Goldberg said, “This show is important right now because for all of the positive advances the community has made and continues to make, transgender is still a hot-button word that gets people hysterical. People tend to focus on the stereotype instead of the person, and this series will give viewers a unique opportunity to spend time with real people who are struggling with the same challenges we all face as we make our way through the world.”

Watch the emotional sneak peek in the video above. Strut premieres on Oxygen Tuesday, September 20, at 9 p.m. ET.
