Ricky Gervais stars as a character tailor-made for his bodacious comic talents: He’s a pudgy, broke loser named Mark living in a fictional world where everyone tells the truth. His fortunes change when he goes to the bank and asks for more money than is in his account — and the teller doles out the cash. A lie is born! Soon he realizes that deceit can lead to wealth, fame and even a romance with out-of-his-league hottie Anna (Jennifer Garner). While it’s yet another male-driven comedy about a beast scoring his beauty, it’s got plenty of laughs (on their first date, Anna tells Mark he’s just too fat for her).
