Vin Diesel is channeling his grief into music. The Furious 7 star, 47, released a new vocal cover as a tribute to his late friend Paul Walker on Wednesday, May 20.
“The ever continuing process of healing,” he wrote via Facebook. “All love.”
In the clip he sings a slowed-down version of Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” while wearing a white tank top and standing at the microphone. Behind him flashed images of the pals both in the Fast and the Furious films and in real life. (Originally a sultry-but-dark dance track aimed at an ex-lover, Diesel reinterpreted the Swedish singer’s breakout smash as a dirge to a fallen loved one, with the chorus, “You’re gone and I gotta stay / High all the time / To keep you off my mind.”)
This isn’t the first time the actor has tried his hand at singing. He’s recently covered Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani’s “My Heart Is Open,” and Rihanna’s “Stay.”
Diesel has been open abut his grief following Walker’s death in November 2013.
“It was in some ways the hardest movie that I ever had to do because the relationships that you see on film are so real, when the tragedy happened, I lost my best friend, I lost my brother,” he told an audience in March.
The father of three welcomed a baby girl in March and named her Pauline after his longtime pal.
