When American Idol premieres its 10th season on January 19, all eyes will be on new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, and the pair tell UsMagazine.com their nerves have hit fever pitch.
Seasoned Aerosmith vet Tyler calls the judging process "excruciating."
"These [contestants] have it so much harder [than I did as a singer]. They haven't had the good graces to play clubs and get beaten down that way," Tyler told reporters at Tuesday's Television Critics Association panel. "So they have their mom and dad telling them they're great, and they feel entitled because they watch the show. They gotta come up and really give it up, and it's just excruciating. It's been hard for me."
But once the talent does get whittled down, Lopez says fans should expect some showstopper performances.
"For me there are standout moments I have not seen in 10 years [on Idol]," the singer says. "There were some performances in particular where I was just like 'what!?' We're in a place where everyone is so good it's hard to send them home."
