Lindsay Lohan is taking on the role of a lifetime.
The troubled star--whose last major film part was in 2009's Labor Pains--has been tapped to star in Liz & Dick, a Lifetime Original Movie about Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's tumultuous relationship.
"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor," Lohan told Us Weekly in a statement Monday. "She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role."
Legendary film icons Taylor and Burton first wed in 1964, after meeting on the set of Cleopatra. They divorced in 1974, only to tie the knot once again one year later--and then split ways for good in 1976.
Burton was as famous for his heavy drinking and playboy ways as he was for his talents. The classically trained actor passed away in 1984 from a cerebral hemorrhage. (Taylor died just last March at the age of 79.)
Lifetime has yet to cast the role of Taylor's longtime love, but we've got a few suggestions for them when it comes time to choose someone to play the brilliant, moody Burton--namely, Gerard Butler, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Colin Farrell, and James Franco.
