Whoopi Goldberg: Mel Gibson "Is Not a Racist"

Mel Gibson has one person defending him in Hollywood.
The actor, 54, was allegedly quoted on tape using the N-word, but Whoopi Goldberg said on The View Monday, "I know Mel, and I know he's not a racist."

"I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he's being a bonehead, but I can't sit and say that he's a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids," added Goldberg, 54.
"I don't like what he's done, make no mistake," she went on. "I'm not defending Mel. I'm simply saying I don't see him as [a racist] because that's not been my experience with him."

On Monday, new explosive audio was released by RadarOnline.com in which Gibson allegedly admits to hitting ex Oksana Grigorieva while she held their 8-month-old daughter, Lucia.
On June 21, Grigorieva filed a restraining order against Gibson, alleging that he punched her in the face and knocked out her teeth Jan. 6. A Gibson source tells Us Weekly: "They got into it, but he absolutely did not injure her."

He then turned around and filed his own restraining order against Grigorieva, prohibiting her from speaking about certain aspects of their case.
They are both due in court July 20 over the restraining order.

77mel is most certainly a racist and clearly a woman abuser. whoopi is so obviously blind.
I think her thought process is off. She seems so strong & intelligent @ times. Then she has these moments which can't seem to be explained. She said when she gets angry, lets say someone cuts her off in traffic, if she notices they're White, Black, Asian whatever she'll call them a bad name. I'm NOT saying it's right, but the anger may be in context to the situation. Mel shouldn't have any excuse to say the awful things he said. He WANTED to say these things, he couldn't wait to say them. Really, what did a Black person have to do with his anger towards Oksana? He simply wanted to say these things & Whoopi shouldn't have said anything. It would have been better if she just said, I have no comment on this one. I hope she realizes Mel's a bonehead, jerk, a--hole, loser, triffling, sick, turd & most of all a RACIST!
I am a big fan of Whoopi, but I find that when it comes to race, she is curiously out of touch and naive. When a person drinks they lose the ability to censor their real feelings. If you truly believe that all people are equal and deserving of respect then those ugly words won't come into your head,and those ugly feelings won't be in your heart. Whoopi does so much harm as a black person defending this man. Then again, what can you expect? She saw nothing wrong with her boyfriend Ted Danson telling racist jokes in blackface, or Michael Vicks abusing and killing dogs. She needs help.
Mel Gibson is slime. Whoopi Goldberg, and The View, by their employment and connection to her, have just taken on the ire and contempt of hundreds of thousands of people. There is no redemption for Mel Gibson. You reap what you sow in this life. The only redemption is karma and Mr. Gibson will soon find out about that in spades! I will never watch any show again that Whoopi Goldberg hosts, co-hosts or has any regular appearance on, and if she appears on a talk-show or as a guest on a show, I will not watch that episode of that program. Nor will anyone I know or anyone in my family. And unless ABC does something about this FAST, I will be removing from my DVR cue any and all shows on the ABC Network. Even a heartfelt apology will not suffice. The way she spoke to the viewers of 'The View' on national television, Whoopi should be fired immediately. Opinions are one thing. Insulting viewers is another. They are going to drastically lose viewership if they do not quickly and effectively patch this up, and that includes removing Whoopi from her post. I hope she is reading this, because her standing by the side of an unequivocal hate-monger like Mr. Mel Gibson, in the middle of a tornado of awful hateful things he has done and said in the past few years, is completely and totally unacceptable to many many many people. Good riddance Whoopi! You will not be missed by me!! And we have every right to post our comments anonymously Whoopi!!!!
Two points. (1)It's a documented fact that excessive alcohol consumption causes loss of inhibitions. In other words, the real you comes out. (2)One of Whoopi Goldberg's old boyfriends once showed up at a Friar's Club function in blackface. This speaks tons on Ms. Goldberg's judgement when it comes to the issue of race.
Whether Mel Gibson is a racist or not has no bearing on my life whatsoever. I've known or been around a few alcoholics (as an RN and personally) and I know they're just some people that can be great sober, but you get alcohol in them and they just turn nasty and mean. Not blaming the lady by any means, but I don't thinks she is telling the complete truth on why she recorded the conversations in the first place. Who knows though? Maybe she was/is scared of him. He's darn sure more powerful and by far has more money to fight her in court.
to macaber-LMBO I agree that just because you are tea party supporter does not make you a racist. I am not an african american, I am an American whose race is Black. I try to support the NAACP for all that has been done in the advancement of blacks in America but sometimes they call a group racist just because they don't agree with their principles. I believe Whoopi and have had a blow up that I have regretted. Even those that you love can be on the receiving end if you don't get control. It's called stinging them where it hurts. The tongue is a double edged sword.
And people I am not trying to attack MS Sharon Himes just point out that Whoopi knows the man and her opinion while just her opinion carries more weight than the rest of ours due to the fact she actually do know the man.
Sharon Himes if you would re-read Whoopi, was not defending Mel's actions she was stating she did not believe him to be a racist based on her personal knowledge of the man as being a friend over years. She did state that there was no excuss for his behavior. Her statement was from knowledge of the man, which have none except what comes through the media. And that information is presented in the way that is going to generate the most amount of cash. I am not saying that the facts presented concerning Mel is wrong, because I was not there so I don't know. But you should maybe get off of Whoopi for stating a opinion based on knowin this man other than seeing him on the big screen. I think the man has issues and needs help, but who among us don't?

Oh yes he is! Think about it, how many of us have been angry, heated, just flat out perturbed? I have! I don't know anyone who gets off topic, lets say, I'm mad about my spouse spending $ on a big screen t.v. or my friend was gossiping about me...I wouldn't just go on a tirade about people's ethnicity! He just WANTED an "excuse to say the N-word, refer to Hispanic's as "wet----s" & of course putting down women. When he was stopped while DUI'ing, what made him go off about Jewish ppl? I watch the View daily & as soon as Whoopi opened her mouth, I was like nooooooooooooo. Of course it was too late. She said it. She said she didn't think Mad Mel's racist, b'cause he's been over her house. Well, Whoopi I'm sure the K.k.K. wouldn't mind hosting a meeting @ ur mansion too. Servants, poolside living? Mad Mel's probably put u in another category. Lets see if he's willing to go over some other Black person's house just to hang out. Doubt it. Whoopi's had White husband's, dated Ted Danson who paraded in "black face" so she's a bit, shall we say different. What keeps me from disliking her, is she does seem to be a compassionate person for others, such as the homeless, single mom's & other people in life who may be in need of a 2nd chance. Being called a racist is losing its sting. Seems everybody is now a racist. Even racists are racists. The NAACP just labeled the Tea Party members as racist.
