Whoopi Goldberg: Patrick Swayze Will "Always Be Near"
Whoopi Goldberg fondly remembers her Ghost costar, Patrick Swayze -- who died from pancreatic cancer Monday in Los Angeles — in a statement to Usmagazine.com.
"Patrick was a really good man, a funny man and one to whom I owe much that I can't ever repay," says Goldberg, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for her role in the 1990 romantic drama.

"I believe in Ghost's message, so he'll always be near," continues Goldberg. In the film, Swayze is murdered and communicates with his wife, played by Demi Moore, through Goldberg, a psychic.
Swayze was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role, which was one of his most famous after 1987's Dirty Dancing (which also earned him a Golden Globe nod).
Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008. He went on to tape A&E cop drama The Beast until it was canceled in June 2009.
