You’re never too old for a scolding! Brothers and opposing political operatives Dallas and Brad Woodhouse got the mother of all phone calls on Tuesday, Dec. 16, when their mom called in to C-SPAN to reprimand them for fighting on-air.
Brad (a Democrat) and Dallas (a Republican) were discussing their documentary, Woodhouse Divided, and debating the issues currently facing the nation when “Joy in North Carolina” called in to the show. “Hey, somebody from down South!” Dallas exclaimed excitedly.
“Well, you’re right, I’m from down South,” the caller replied a little sassily.
At that, Dallas bowed his head, the recognition of the woman’s voice dawning on him. “Oh God, it’s Mom,” he said, as his brother began to laugh in disbelief.
“I’m your mother. And I disagree that all families are like ours. I don’t know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving,” she scolded them. “I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was a year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws. And I’m hoping you’ll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas. I love you both.”
Host Steve Scully then interrupted to tell viewers that the call was not planned. “She called in on the normal line,” he explained, before asking Joy what it was like to raise two boys with such different world views.
“I love politics. Their dad and I both love politics…I know that we have to take responsibility for them,” Joy, a registered Democrat, told Scully. “And they’re both very passionate about what they believe in. And I love that about them. But I hope that they just kinda get this out of their system on your program.”
