X Factor Champ Melanie Amaro: What to Expect From My Debut Album

Two weeks after her big X Factor win, Melanie Amaro is already hard at work prepping her debut album.

During a January 6 visit to Us Weekly's New York City headquarters, the 19-year-old Florida native revealed that she's had meetings with X Factor's Antonio "L.A." Reid to plan her career's next steps — and that all-important first album from Epic Records.

"It's starting to set in now that I won. I met with L.A. and he's as excited to work with me as I am to work with him," the singer tells Us of Reid, who critiqued Amaro along with Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell on FOX's new series. "He makes great music and with him, I know I can really go far."

While Reid will take the lead on Amaro's album as Epic CEO, the teen's X Factor mentor Cowell will still maintain a steady presence in the recording studio.

"Simon will definitely be helping with the music and mentor and guide me, but L.A. will oversee and approve everything. I'll definitely do some big ballads — everyone likes "Big Ballad Melanie" — but I'm also going to put something else on there that people aren't going to expect but are going to enjoy," says Amaro.
