In the first season finale, it was revealed that Mary Alice and husband Paul (Mark Moses) had illegally bought a baby from a heroin addict. They moved to Wisteria Lane, but in 1993, the woman returned to claim her child. A fight ensued, and Mary Alice stabbed her and killed the woman. She and Paul chopped up the body and buried it under their pool. Felicia Tilman (Harriet Sansom Harris) and Martha Huber (Christine Estabrook) learned of this and blackmailed her, causing her to commit suicide.
