yeah. i just had stitches removed today after having the seventh basal cell carcinoma excised from my face. i was a sun worshiper but also got the gene. it's not particularly funny - and the basal cells are the garden variety. the ones in tricky places [nose, around the eyes] have to be repaired by a facial plastic surgeon. the surgery's the cure, but it gets damn tedious going back time after time to get the cancer removed and then the old nip/tuck to repair the wound from the removal.

mcgregor is fair-skinned and moles can sometimes be the scarier, more serious melanomas, and a lot different in the severity and treatment than the BCSC lesions. he could be being evasive, but hopefully was just wanting to keep his personal life personal.

"I just went to have them checked, you have to be careful if you're pale skinned and you spend time in the sun with moles," he explained.

"So I went to see a specialist who thought they were better to be removed and indeed he was correct."

When asked if he had been at all frightened by his brief experience with the disease, he joked: "It was great fun having skin cancer, it was great, I really enjoyed it."

Well, there's the stupid question he was asked...

I agree with 10:28. Some people deal with problems in their life with humor. I don't think he was trying to offend anyone. Just make light something scary and deadly.

glad he's okay. not a very funny comment, but at least he hasn't lost his sense of humor. some people cope with trying to keep laughing...and keeping things light no matter what.

I'm just glad to hear that Ewan McGregor no longer has a cancerous mole just below his right eye, but he should never joke about it because it's not funny to people who are battling any kind of cancer!
