EXCLUSIVE: Sam Lutfi Admits He Gave Britney Spears "a Handful of Pills"

Sam Lutfi, who is now on the receiving end of a restraining order imposed by Britney Spears' parents, was the one person by her side as she unraveled over the past six months.
In the latest issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands now, Spears' de facto manager and confidant opens up about her bipolar disorder, how he medicated her, what happened the night she was hospitalized, and how her parents reacted.
"In the depressive episodes, it's all crying," Lutfi tells Us. "But in the manic episode, there's very little crying or sympathy or compassion. She becomes another person. She becomes somebody that just doesn't care about anybody or anything."
"The British accent is part of the mania," he adds. "She'll stick to the British accent because she becomes comfortable with it... But you know, when the pink wig comes on, it's getting bad."
Lutfi says that when Spears was involuntarily committed to treatment at UCLA Medical Center on January 31, her mom, Lynne Spears, arrived and tried to remove her daughter from his guidance. "Well, he is better family than you guys will ever be," Spears responded, according to Lutfi.
Lutfi tells Us that he gave Britney "a handful of pills" before her parents arrived. "I said these pills are working wonders, they are miracle pills," he recalls. Spears, Lutfi says, agreed that the meds were helping her sleep.
(In their restraining order against Lutfi filed yesterday, Spears' parents accuse him of drugging their daughter and being verbally abusive. Jamie, who has been named as his daughter's conservator, "is doing what he has to do to save Britney," a source tells Us.)
Spears is one of nearly six million American adults suffering from bipolar disorder, a mental illness consisting of extreme shifts in mood, thought, energy, and behavior patterns.
Lutfi, 33, tells Us only he, Spears, and her psychiatrist know what brought on her bipolar disorder "roughly five years ago."
When the ambulance arrived to take Spears, "she was very quiet," Lutfi tells Us.
"When I told her, she wrote me a note and put a big heart on it and it said, 'I love you, Sam. Are there people coming? Circle yes or no,'" Lutfi recalls. "Oh, my God, it was funny, just the cutest little thing. I circled yes and I gave it back to her, and she looked at me and she's like, 'Oh, lord, here we go again.'"
Attorneys are fighting on Spears' behalf to take conservatorship away from Jamie. Having Jamie in control of her estate and medical decisions is a worst-case scenario for Spears, sources tell Us.

from what i have just read a lot of people are un familiar with bi polar it is a chemical inbalance of the brain , you can have it for years and it may never show up but usually a very stressful event can bring it out and yes it is genetic, my father and grandfather both had it and now my son and i both have it so it's best to try and stay out of stressful situations, take your meds and do exactly what your dr. says because there is no way to cure it, brit went through a lot of stress with 2 pregnancies and a divorce that's a lot of stuff for one person to handle.

The only person in this whole convoluted mess who truly cares about Britney Spears, the person, is Adnan Galib. Either that, or he's a good actor. I say this because in the Entertainment Tonight interview a few weeks back, he was so caring and expressed concern about that creep Sam Lutfi and how she needs to get away from him.
It is SUCH a strange situation, the paparrazi being in her life and all, but I think he really does care, more than Sam does anyway. What he said is EXACTLY the way it is... I'm glad her parents stepped in and got a restraining order against Howard Stern the 3rd. Am I the only one to whom this reminds of the whole Anna Nicole saga? "Here honey, take some drugs, you'll feel better." And then she's so whacked out, she needs someone to tell her when to pee.

Theory1 She felt alone and sorry for what K-fed did agaisnt her while she was married. K-fed asked Osama to "help" him by giving pills to her, so he could get her children and the money. They wanted, maybe, to kill her. For that they both have to go to jail.

Cont. from above.....Even if it was what she wanted or maybe what her mother wanted for her, or both, I think that she is just trying to tell the public or society as a whole that she is going to do exactly the opposite of what everyone would like her to do. Now why is that? She wants to do stuff her way for once, even if it is bad. She just hasn't figured out how to be independent without acting like a 13 yr old. She will, especially when she is allowed to, or given the room to. She dresses really poorly because she knows how badly the public and her fans want her to clean up her attire. It isn't rocket science, really! You also have to realize that when kevin left her that that is probably the first time that she had ever been hurt like that or had her ego smashed like that, ever. And for someone like that, as famouse as she is, that can be so devastating that they are never quite the same because of it. How many other famouse people have gone thru the same thing?? There is all the bad press that she has gotten for being less than stellar with her kids in public. You add all of these differetn issues together and you get exactly what Brit has become. A nervouse breakdown daily. She has totally crumbled under the pressure and stress of what has become her life. It would do her an immeasureable amount of good to get the hell away from LA and make a start somewhere else in peace and quite so that she could take the time that she needs to heal and figure out who she is and what she has become and why. LA is never going to allow that type of process. NEVER!

I think that Sam let it look like she had control at "certain times" He knew that people were watching them and how they interacted, and closely. He's not stupid. He has been through all of this before with previouse people who also have restraining orders out against him. How is it that that many people have all had the same type of problem with him. That is scary. I think that he really just enjoyed being on the inside of her life and being the one with staying power because everyone else, litterally everyone, got the boot except for him. He was enableing her drug use and keeping her from being to indpependent from him. He knew what he was doing, really it wasn't that hard to manipulate a really depressed and broken hearted mom of two boys that have been taken from her. Britney is not only ill with her BP issues but she has the whole being famouse aspect to deal with as well. If you or I get sick, we can deal with it privately, she will never know what that is like, EVER. Her bussiniess will always be on public display. If that isn't hard to deal with then I don't know what is?? She is also rebelling really hard right now from what anyone would like her to do or be. How obvious is it that she has always been told how to be, what to do, what to wear, how to act, where to go..... from a really young age she has been fullfilling a role.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about 3 years ago. During that time I hated my parents and thought they were out to get me. I was co-dependent on someone who was mentally and emotionally abusive to me. I would fly off the handle at the littlest things and then laugh and cry like a mad person. I would do stupid things that were totally out of character for me, but I got the help that i needed. Britany need to make sure that she is getting both counsuling and proper medication in order to function. Bipolar is not something that is brought on by family disfunction. It is a disease that makes you feel out of control. It is something that you are born with, not something that you just wake up one day and have. It just takes time to recognize and properly diagnose the symptoms. Get the help you need Brit and just remember that family is important. Don't let anyone ever make you feel like no one will love you because of this disease. You will be loved by someone and there are people out there that love you. Get well and keep singing!

I think it's good that Britney's parents are taking control of her life. She hired this guy (Osama Lutfi) as her manager and he just treated her like dirt. I think he should be in jail for treating her this way. No one deserves this, Britney is HUMAN!!!! Just like the rest of us. Yeah she has her problems so does everyone else. Kfed needs to back off with all the custody battles (just cause she can afford to look after her two gorgeous boys) and get a REAL JOB!!!!! SAM LUTFI IS A LOSER!!!!!

As for Britney - have they really diagnosed her with Bipolar disorder? Before she was hospitalised they were throwing that term around - it seems mighty convenient she is hospitalised for a very short time and has that diagnosis. I have a friend who has B.D - she was hospitalised a lot longer and takes daily medications to moderate the chemical imbalances but even then she has to really stay on top of her game and make sure she watches out for warning signs about having another 'episode'.
I think something is not right - not right with Britney, not right with her family, not right with Osama Lufti. It's pretty f*cked up.

Maybe Sam Lutfi meant that she would be dead IF IT WEREN'T FOR HIM THERE? It seems like everyone is taking it only one way as if he were threatening, but look at this possibility, too, that he may mean that he was helping her stay alive...as perverse a manner as he's using with all those pills. He seems to be the first one to step in and do anything about her wildness, although perhaps not the most constructive.

i have always hated britney and thought her to be completely diabolical but when there were reports of her having bipolar i couldn't help but feel sympathetic. i know a friend who has one so i know it's a serious disease. But i also know for a fact that if britney surrounds herself with good people and just try to move away from all the chaos and hollywood bs, she'll improve and hopefully lead a better life for her and her two kids.

Anyone thinking this guy is a "decent, good human being" is seriously delusional.
