Friend: Anna Nicole Smith's Son Was "Living in a Shell" Due to Mom's Fame

 Gregg DeGuire/WireImage.com Anna Nicole Smith's late son Daniel did not want to be in his mother's spotlight, a family friend testified Tuesday at an inquest into his death. Ford Shelley — the son-in-law of a developer who was embroiled in an ownership dispute over the estate where Anna Nicole lived in the Bahamas before her February 2007 death — said Daniel was "living in a shell" due to his mother's fame, the Associated Press reports. "He wanted to break free," Shelley said. "He loved his mother but didn't want to be known as her son." An autopsy found the likely cause of death of Daniel's 2006 death was a combination of drugs, including methadone and antidepressants. The lab director for the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner's Office testified that a large dose of methadone taken by Daniel Smith was the primary cause behind his death. But Shelley denied that Daniel Smith could have been a drug addict because he was "afraid of his own shadow" and "couldn't even hold his liquor." The inquest continues Wednesday. In regard to 12:22 Nat: How do you know that's the case? That is an odd drug of choice. Based on all the information I have read regarding his case, I would say he could have been murdered. Look into it, and then see if you feel that way. Who are you to judge anyway? Have you never taken Tylenol or Advil for a headache? How about an antacid for indigestion? It is all the same, just different forms. Just an escape mechanism that a human feels is psychologically needed for pain etc...
