The celebrity spinner, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, died in August 2009 of an apparent drug overdose at the age of 36. The star -- who battled his own drug addictions and attempted suicide before getting sober more than 10 years ago -- survived a tragic plane crash last year that left him critically injured.

The disease of addiction is a deadly one. It is just waiting around the corner to suck you in if you don't admit that you are powerless over it and get help. This disease has killed millions and will continue to do so if we don't get a handle on it. I have seen to many friends die from this disease, I don't plan on being a statistic from it either. I AM NOT ready to die. I don't want to end up on a slab for an autopsy because of a STUPID bottle of pills or booze!!! And yes, I am a RECOVERING alcoholic/addict that plans to do the next right thing by living LIFE on LIFE'S terms!!!! I did go to the best treatment center in the world, in Texas. Please, please get help people!!! Don't be afraid to ask for help, I wasn't, and that saved my life. God gave me another chance to live!! I was very lucky!! I am praying for all who are out there that need help to beat this disease!!

I understand the idea that addition is a spiritual battle, but too often we throw God into the mix without really teaching about having a relationship with Him and understanding what our part is. Until recently, when I struggled with my own real issues, I didn't understand how anyone could think of using drugs. And for those of you who think "living in a lap of luxury" is the answer, please know that all the money in the world doesn't change things when you're hurting from the inside out and have lost hope. Most drug addicts aren't looking to die. They just aren't that excited about living. It's important to remember that celebs are people and sometimes, have problems that can't be fixed by money or fame. When you just want to get away, drugs can attract you and if people would let celebs be "just people" sometimes, they might have a chance to just get away. How would your life be if you had to live it in front of the world - the good and the bad things you wouldn't want anyone to know about you? I know it's part of the celeb life, but everything that glitters isn't gold and often the addicts are just looking for some place they can forget whatever is hurting them. We really should stop acting like money solves all the problems. Enough "rich" people have died unnecessarily to prove that isn't true.

well said Carrie..... Although I am not a recovering individual I did date one for years and attended many a meeting. Understanding, acceptance, desire to change, faith, and strength. Well put and essential in maintaining the path. Sad none the less.

Corey died an old man in a way. His life was in reverse. Most of us achieve success after a long period of trying hard. He achieved success in the beginning by being a relatively cute little guy and then once the cuteness rubbed off he was shunned by Hollywood and had a rapid decline. He wasn't used to the nowhere jobs and relative hopelessness that now pervades the United States and its moribund economy and so he couldn't adapt and found his reality in hard drugs. He could have always gotten a medical marijuana card and a job at Walmart and lived the American dream like the rest of us. StocktonRob

Hey John. Not to sound harsh but apparently you have never been into a rehab to know that religion does play a part. It is part of the curriculum that the serenity prayer be used, and doesnt stop there. I understand what you are saying however basing an ENTIRE recovery program around god doesnt get to the root of the problem. Addiction is a personal struggle that needs to be dealt with from the inside out starting with the earliest triggers and going from there. I do believe that a strong faith is a great basis for any recovery however simply believing in a higher power will not cure this. It comes from understanding, acceptance, desire to change, faith, and strength.

Death, in whatever form or situation is always sad and anyone who says "who cares" is a pathetic individual who will, hopefully in the end, experience the pain that death brings. If not, then he has never experienced love and THAT is even more sad. May your pain ease quickly and loving memories of your loved one shine through the gloom.

My prayers and Sympathy go out to Corey's family. You must always remember, he was a good actor, and I know he was a wonderful son. I pray today to my parents in Heaven that they will well come him into the Kindom of Heaven and will guide him to his family members who are waiting for him. He will be missed by the public.

Lots of sad stories lets not put MJ in this category he was a criminal and you would not let him near any young boys you care about.
  • March 02, 2010 - 10:19am John Fuse Says:

I feel very sad for you lost and will keep you in my prayers. But let us get real with this thing called addiction. It is real and it is not going away fast. People do not wake up and say"I guess I will be a crack head, steal from my mom and dad,lie for money and drugs, have sex with men and women, loose my job, go to jail, drive drunk, throw up in the car,and much much more". This is a spiritual thing and it is a battle that has already been won but we have to relize it and believe it and know it. Yes there is a power greater than me and it is Jesus Christ our Lord the Son of GOD. Once we can put this into rehabs and centers all over the world that we can aleast get to the root of the real problems. We can admit to it now or later but it will happen, Jesus Saves and died on the cross for our sins and rose again. He is the Son of GOD. I thank him this day for taking addiction out of my life.It can be beat but in a spiritual way believe me I know.
