Get Smart Beats Love Guru at Box Office

Steve Carell and newly single Anne Hathaway were the weekend box office champs.

Their comedy, Get Smart, was No. 1, earning an estimated $39.2 million.

The weekend's other big debut — Love Guru starring Mike Myers, Justin Timberlake and new mom Jessica Alba —debuted at No. 4.

Fraught with bad reviews, the comedy raked in just $14 million.

"Mike Myers, the master of the spy spoof, opens his movie against a spy comedy, and the spy movie genre was obviously a lot more appealing to audiences," Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers, told the Associated Press.

In other box office news, Kung Fu Panda — featuring the voices of
pregnant-with-twins Angelina Jolie and Jack Black — maintained the No. 2 spot, with an estimated $21.7 million.

The Incredible Hulk held the No. 3 slot with $21.6 million.

what this mike myers guy doesn't get is that he is so 90's, he needs to retire, he is a multi millioraire and needs to move out of the way for younger or better comdidians like steve carrel whose humor is actually ironic and funny.
plus any movie that has JT i skip, anyone remember "model behaviour" on disney chanel BAHAHAHAH, and to think he mocks briney for her lack of acting skills.

Well I really shouldnt be arguing eh? I mean it is YOUR opinion but.. Sure he is pretty 90's, BUT since hes so "90's" he will ALWAYS be a comedy legend to me. So will adam sandlers for that matter :P. Steve carrell is alright. He is pretty funny. But Mike myers will always be my favorite actor. Well, I have to tell you about that JT thing. The commercial made me think that he was a good actor. But when I saw the movie. Tsk tsk, not funny nor great acting skills. So.. your saying younger comedians are better? Pfft. Wow. Thats a first. Never heard that before.

I saw Love guru. Loved it!! Hilarious Movie.. Wasnt at all interested in that smart spy thingy... The happening was AMAZING. Suspensful. Loved it. Kungfu panda dissapointed me... It wasnt at all funny. But,I was expecting better. The hulk was alright. :] Overall I loved Love Guru and The happening. Great movies.

My oldest son saw "The Love Guru," and he didn't care for it. I guess the promotions of commericials were very misleading to the actual movie. I'm not all that interested in seeing "Get Smart." I'm not into spy movies. I've seen "Kung Fu Panda," with my little girls, and they loved it. I saw the "Incredible Hulk," with my boys (they liked it) and it was okay to me. I've been debating on whether to go see "The Happening" or I think I'm more inclined to just wait until it comes out on DVD.

I think I made James McAvoy sound harsher than he really is. In the interview I read, he was swearing about everything - not seriously, just a way of talking, maybe it's from being Scots or like how some people use the f-word here.

He's actually very self-deprecating & witty, and has nothing but good things to say about Angelina Jolie. He was awed the first time he met her, but within 5 minutes they were comfortable.

But you can't deny that Angelina Jolie is the perfect storm for publicity & promotion right now, and the producers/studios know that. So do her co-stars; James McAvoy is Wanted's top star - he's said doesn't give ***** if Angie gets most of the attention if she sells the movie.

James McAvoy really sounded defensive when he said he doesnt give a sh*t if Angie gets topbilling in the promotions instead of him since he is the main star. James just cant accept the fact the Angelina is a much bigger star than him, which should have been his answer,instead of using expletives and sounded rather phony about not minding it!

He should be nice to Angelina since he supported him in his movie, and if it makes money, he will get to benefit the most, since he has signed for sequels already.

No one likes that obvious, making fun of people with disabilities/sex jokes/wearing costumes and making fun of people from different countries/ comedy. People are looking for something more intelligent. Not the same Austin Powers movies.

Mike Myers was a great comedian in his day. He should be remembered for that, instead of making more horrible movies.

Along with being an Oscar-winning actress/top female action star, she's mother of 4 and pregnant with Brad Pitt's twins, hands-on UN Goodwill Ambassador for refugees, Council of Foreign Relations, Time's 100 Influential People, Forbe's Hollywood Power People, and considered the most beautiful & sexiest woman in the world.

It's hilarious! Every other minute something funny comes up. Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway have good chemistry. I'm going to go see it again in addition to buying the DVD when it comes out. Worth the ~$10 ticket to the movies.
