The good news about the Golden Globes is that NBC announced on Friday that, despite the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, next Sunday's awards broadcast will go on.
The bad news: It appears no celebrities will be attending.
"We are prepared to move forward with the telecast on Jan. 13," NBC spokeswoman Rebecca Marks said in a statement. But the network's revelation came on the same day that the Screen Actors Guild announced that its members -- including a star-studded Globes nominee list that include stars such as Angelina Jolie, George Clooney and Keira Knightley -- had indicated they will show support for the union writers by boycotting the show.
SAG president Alan Rosenberg said in a statement, "There appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross" picket lines to present or accept an award.
The Writers Guild of America previously refused to grant a waiver to allow its members to work on the Golden Globes, the People's Choice Awards and the Academy Awards.
Last month, Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl, nominated for Best Supporting Performance in a Drama Series, announced she wouldn't attend the Globes if there was a strike.
"I'm not crossing the picket line unless I'm contractually obliged to do so," she said.

I don't understand what the writers strike has to do with awards shows. They don't need writers for their speeches and they can just skip skits that need writers. Most of the awards shows aren't even given by studios anyway. Why is it even considered crossing the line when these awards are being given for things that were completed BEFORE the strike even started. Those involved should be given their KUDOS for things they worked on PRIOR to the strike!! Why should the strike have ANYTHING to do with awards? I think the writers are selfish anyway... they make more money than real hero's out there fighting for our country, saving our lives, and protecting us every day (as those in the military, policemen and firemen do). So what if the studio's aren't sharing in on the internet weath... I say give that money to our "heros", not writers who already make a better wage than these folks. Also, I won't lose interest in a show just because it's off the air for awhile, it will just make me more anxious to see it when it comes back on. The writers aren't stopping anything by striking... I'll still watch my shows (I like reruns, why do you think there is a TVLAND?) and will continue to watch the good ole reruns until new shows finally come on.
Which one is real? It seems it is different as the one I got at the niche interracial dating site named interracialconnect.com . As you know thousands of new members join daily to meet dream date in this comfortable community of cultures and ethnicities. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that everyone in Hollywood should take a pay-cut, actors and writers alike. That way it won't cost $10 to go see a movie. A movie that you can pretty much figure out the ending to it before you get 1/4 of the way through it. Maybe if Hollywood gets some starving writers and actors employed, movies would be more interesting.
We all know they are not coming because they won't have that teleprompter up there telling them what to say. The majority of them are puppets who either need a script or a great publicist writing their speeches or their every word. Look at Beyonce she is like a zombie in every interview and repeats the same thing in every interview.
Award shows are boring period. The self absorbed won't go ohhh who cares cry me a river about the writers. blah blah blah
They say they won't go, but we know that it is killing them that if they win to not go and get their chance to speak they will never forget it. I really could care less if they show or not, but be real about it. They are all pissed they can't go and do their thing!!!!!
I wonder if Brad farts in bed alot. I bet he does, and I bet Angie gets pissed.
She looks so cute in the face and hair. She has talent, personality, style and star quality :)
Maybe I should go on strike too...I don't get paid as much as some of the other people at my job either.
Would like to see Brad and Angelina on red carpet.
Please stop hates both of them, Happy new-year 2008
I bet they argue about who is sexier. Can't you just hear them? "Brad, I am sexiest, look at my gigantuously plump lips!" (she pouts and looks sexy) then Brad says, "No I am sexier, you stupid woman, look at my abs I am a greek god" (he pulls up his shirt and flexes)
8:48 pm I agree with you. This is what Angie deserves, she is nominated for all these awards that no one cares about now and she won't be able to walk her dog on the red carpet. This writers strike could not have happened at a better time.
Does Brad need glasses? He always looks like he's trying real hard to see something in the distance.
Too bad, we wont see Brad and Angie in the red carpet. But its ok we still ahve the SAG and teh Oscar.
This writer's strike seems to be never ending and having a pretty big backlash on Hollywood. No new shows, no celebs attending the Golden Globes, etc. I'm sure this is costing millions upon millions of dollars. Clearly Hollywood can't manage without the writers so maybe it's time to give them what they want or at least reach some reasonable compromise!
if u r one of the annying people who keep posting about how celebs r on billionairecupid.com or celebdating.com etc etc, PLEASE STOP!!! it is annoying and wasting space and it really bugs me- u r nobodys so stop acting like u no wut ur talking bout!!!!!
to anon 8:01- who are u to say this??? those writers r the ones who MAKE the shows and the actors what they are!!! half of these owe their careers to the writers! shame on you
Yeah, this makes me so happy, well this save Mangelina from being embarrassed when she doesn't win the award, and we win because now we won't be subjected to these two frauds walking the red carpet and acting so in love.
Thank God for the writers strike, now I won't have to see Skankalina in a gown with those hidious tattoos covering her boney body.
I think the writers strike is stupid. These people should be happy they are working for shows like desperate housewives and csi, not complaining that they arent paid enough. There are so many writers who cant even get a job in hollywood. All these "stars" like katherine heigl who are boycotting are just looking for another cover story. If anything i'd be pissed that i wasnt getting to work and get paid because of this strike. It is ridicoulous and needs to end already
so, no celebs, what-so-ever, will be attending the Golden Globes? not even d-list celebs? there must be at least one person going! if anyone has a hint as to who may be attending, post a reply plz. thanks! :-)
As much as I agree with what 11:04 has to say --- I must admit it is a little hypocritical considering you are reading and posting on a blog for Us Magazine, a magazine that deals with and applies to all of the things that you have just protested.
Brad & Jolie met in Mr&Mrs Smith, they fell in love, Brad left Jennifer in missarable condition, and now Brad & Jolie are expecting their child! (When Jennifer is still trying to find her true love....sob sob).

This is funny. Brad Pitt was upbraided by the LA Times for not taking a stand on the writer's strike, so by boycotting the Golden Globes, Angelina is upstaging him. She has nothing to lose by not showing up because she won't win the award anyway. I have noticed the little competitive games she plays with Brad. It is funny as hell.
I agree with 11:04. The irony is that many of these overpaid stars then turn around and agitate for their liberal causes at the poor tax payer's expense. All the while, they are living the sweet life.
10:42, who do you think you are, the board cop? Loser. Leave this board if it hurts your dainty feelings.
10:43, read the 10:34 post. You are double stupid for calling people "ill-tempered brats" for "name calling." That is because you were specifically shown how stupid you would have to be to do something you accuse others of. Did you get that, stupid? You are calling people names for calling people names. (BTW, I can call you names, because unlike you and loser board cop, I don't see anything wrong with insulting people that have earned it, which you have).
#1 - the awards ceremony hog up a huge waste of other quality t.v. time and a huge waste for idiots willing to pay millions of dollars for "ad" time!
#2 - it's an excuse to parade around in 6 figure gowns and 6-7 figure jewelry in 6 figure vehicles all while there are hungry, poor and homeless people out there. People struggling to rebuild their lives after disasters: landslides, earthquakes, hurricanes, fires, etc.
#3 - Who cares? I have better things to do with my time than sit around and watch a bunch of overpaid actors and actresses who receive another award, when they've already gotten their award when we pay $10-15/per movie to go see their work and raise their box office #'s and their "star" quality.
They are boring and take lots of TV air time that could be spent watching neat things, like cartoons or MTV ;-) I mean seriously, is this truly such an important event in the world that we are to be upset?
are all of you on your periods? what a complaining and name calling, ill-tempered group of brats.
