NBC is scaling back Sunday's Golden Globes award telecast to avoid a showdown between actors and writers during the ongoing writers' strike.
The L.A. Times reports the peacock network will air a special edition of Dateline to showcase the nominees, followed by a press conference announcing the winners and an entertainment-news show covering the after parties.
Last week it was announced that celebrities would not be appearing on the planned awards show.
Tell Us: Will you watch the Globes this year?

here here! 12:31!
I am in fact thrilled that the golden globes won't be aired. Aren't the actors glorified enough without all that self-adulation to jam down our throats? how about a show on real-life heroes of the year instead?
The Writers are deserving of their demands but the show must go on! Seriously, the nominees are from shows and movies made, written, produced long before the writer's strike so why not award them?
The writers have every right to try and get more money, they do work hard for it...even if everything is recycled
Jeremy lesser of two evils~
Do any of you know what it means to belong to a union? It means solidarity! If one union strikes ie: the writers, then the actors union etc support the picket line.
People have spilled their blood in the past to make unions strong. A union is there for the workingn folks to make sure they get what is rightfully theirs. If there was no writers you would have nothing to watch but a 2407 live feed of Britney 's meltdown. Oh but maybe thats ya"ll want.
I come from the UK as well as the oscars i think the biggest thing they will do is to get our BAFTA(British Academy of Film & Television Arts)scaled dowm in the same way as the Golden Globes because they will picket i,our writers support the WGA and there are a lot of Brit members of SAG they could threaten to boycott the ceremony this has a lot of international support, and if it is not settled by the summer other events like the Cannes film festival could be disrupted as well as the AFI tribute to Warren Beatty in June will they disrupt that one too,i wish that this could be settled soon.
This sucks! I love the golden globes! the writers are in way over their heads and they are being completely selfish. AND yes the actors acknowledge the importance of the WGA but do you honestly think that they aren't pissed about not attending! I would be! For some it might be their only chance to ever win a golden globe and get the recognition they deserve. They would be throwing themselves to the wolves if they crossed the picket lines so that is not even an option. These writers have wasted more time and money now than their worth. so stupid. Others are suffering and being put out of a job for their selfish cause
gah! the writers get paid more then teachers, cops, firefighters and military/govt personnel could EVER hope to make in their jobs! those are the important ppl in the world. the writers make VERY good money, and have gotten VERY selfish and greedy. i mean, even Leno can't do his damn job anymore b/c of them! wtf!? cancel everything is you must, but the writers are only hurting themselves. and soon they will see that. the actors will only support them for so long. gotta keep up their lifestyles, you know. ;) plus, this will only bring in scabs who will bring a breath of fresh air to the industry. so go ahead, strike. but it won't stop the world from turning. and you'll end up "starving artists" once again. and we all know THAT ain't cute! so keep it up, or get over yourselves! accept the fact that the money you want AIN'T COMING IN YET! the studios are lying to EVERYONE if they say they are. but it keeps the stockholders happy. if you were smart, you'd relaize this. but i guess you're just too damned "creative" to think LOGICALLY! but whatever. to all my scabs: this is your chance! take it! XD
Here's another question: How come writers and actors are not picketing the Critic's Choice Awards? I'm watching it on VH1, and everyone is there.
I agree with what the writers want, I just think it's wrong that they're disappointing millions of fans.
Writers do get paid extremely well for the scripts they write. The onlx hold out now is profits from dvd and internet sales which wont boost their overall salaries that much. Now come june we have an SAG strike to look forward to. I say we go on strike and stop watching tv and movies altogether. Lets read a book!
8:52 do a little research. They want money for the work they are already doing. Others are getting money for THEIR work while they get nothing. That's not selfish, it's fair.
this is so ridiculous why are the golden globes canceled i think the writers are being selfish ok they want more money then they should get a different job.
Umm, 8:09, they wouldn't happen because there is no one to write for the shows. Not just because the actors say they won't go. The actors SUPPORT the writers and not attending in one way of showing that, as well as furthering their cause.
I totally think that the writer's are asking for what they deserve. What happen to cherishing such great writers? One's like Shakespeare. THe authors get all the credit for writing books. Writing a script is much like a book, and they hardly get ANY recognition. I coudln't even tell you who wrote the 300, or great ones like that.
I think I should know that type of thing, and writers need more credit, and more money for EVEYRTHING that they do.
GO WRITERS!!
STUPID SELFISH ACTORS/ACTRESSES.
JUST CAUSE THE WRITER'S ARE ON STRIKE DOSN'T MEAN YOU NEED TO ALSO.
YOUR DISSAPOINTING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE (INCLUDING ME. I'M A BIG AWARD SHOW FAN)
THANKS A LOT.
Agree with TH. They aren't being selfish, they are asking for their fair share. Strikes happen AFTER that have already tried negotiating and it failed, this one happened as the WAG contract was up. Many actors already said that they would not attend this ceremony, so it would be a pat on the back ceremony for the very people that are profiting while the writers get nothing (in regards to the contested issues). The writers HAVE acknowledged that they appreciate the actors' support by waiving the strike for the SAG awards.
The writers came to an agreement w/UA.
globes got cancelled.
The writers are asking for what they deserve. See how the entertainment industry is affected without them? Writer, Actors, Directors, Editors... everyone in the business need to work together. The writers are responsible for the stories that we see. Why shouldn't they get paid? For example, everyone else benefits from DVD sales. Producers pocket 60% of dvd/internet sales and the rest is in distribution. Why should writers who slave over scripts get a cut? They're not asking for 100% of the profits. They're asking for a cut. And being that they're a part of this industry too, they should be allowed to get some. Nobody ever cares about the writer. But they are apart of the industry as well. And as such deserve to be heard. And if it takes shutting down a favoured film award show to do... then that should tell the industry something. It just interesting how they're not even being unreasonable with their demands, yet they keep getting flack. Doesn't make sense.
I agree with Nikki I think in this case the writer's are being extremely selfish especially since many Actors/talk show hosts have supported them not crossing the picket line, picketing with them, and the talk show hosts paying people's salaries, as a "thank you" they could have come to an agreement with the Golden Globes for ONE night and allow this show to go. It's unfortunate, I was supporting the writer's but now it's hard to do it, it's went on too long, make a compromise and an agreement.
The writers strike has now crossed the line of being extremely selfish. The Golden Globes is one night of the year for actors from movies and television come together to celebrate. Everyone talks about how fun it is. It's a time to honor, and the writers have now ruined it.
Food for thought: The Emmy Awards were postponed after 9-11. The writers strike canceled the Golden Globes.
What's the point in watching the Golden Globes if no celebrity will be there? Announcing the nominees, showing who won, have a little aftershow is better then nothing @ all!
More Britney News!!!! Please!!!!!
What does this have to do with Britney Spears??
keira looks georgous and her dress is beautiful.
Why can't they just negiotiate this whole thing. This writers strike is getting of hand and no one is benefiting from it. If I was a writer I would like the money I was getting before than getting none now. They're only hurting themselves.
I am just glad it is not another thread about Britney.
I am getting sick of hearing about her.
No, what's the point.
I dont think that this is getting out of hand. Im sorry but Im getting fed up with hearing about the writer's strike all the time
