Hancock: Will Smith's Eighth Movie to Open at No. 1 at Box Office

His latest action comedy Hancock earned $107.3 million since opening last Tuesday, becoming Smith's eighth movie to open at No. 1 and his fifth movie to debut at No. 1 over the Fourth of July. Hancock was the second-best opening weekend for Smith, following last year's I Am Legend. "Will Smith, Mom, apple pie and the Fourth of July. It doesn't get any better," Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony, told the Associated Press. "People just so relate to him and the characters that he plays. Last weekend's No. 1 film, WALL-E slipped to the second spot with $33.4 million. Meanwhile, the Angelina Jolie thriller Wanted held strong at No. 3 with $20.6 million.
