For those of you saying "well it's their tradition and their culture etc" remember that gladiators and human slavery were once a part of western culture until people realized how inhumane these practices were. I'm all for ending the brutal massacre of these intelligent, majestic dolphins and whales in Japan just as I am for ending bull-fighting in Spain and fox-hunting in Britan. Japan is the second richest country in the world so it's not like the whalers or their families will starve to death if they stop whaling. It's all about greed and not survival.

Helping animals is no less important than helping people. Besides, there are 6.7 billion people in the world and just a few dolphins so saving the dolphins should come first. I would rather save the dolphins anyway as they're so intelligent and gentle and they've SAVED people's LIVES so they deserve some respect.

Yup. We already tell Japan what to do. The reason that Japan has no army is because we make them have no army. We have our soldiers over there to make sure still. When they were alies with Hitler they commited so amny war crimes that their neighbors were afraid of them, so all of the countries told them to not have an army. Obviosly sometimes a country needs to be stopped doing something if it is bad. Countries can't just be allowed whatever they want to do. They can't just make nuclear weapons, or human rights violations, or ruin the environment because it afects everyone in the world. I want my children to have clean drinking water, air they can breathe and all kinds of good stuff. Sorry if that pisses off some mean guy that just can't be happy unless they kill a dolphin they aren't even going to eat.

Japan has been sanctioned by the United Nations several times about their terrible environmental practices, so our country and many others have already let them know they are in errror. They just don't care.

Wales are becoming extinct. And Japan is to blame. What are you talking about there are too many wales? You really need to check what you are saying. There is no excuse to mess up the "environment just a little". The japanese also pollute. Besides, the ocean is where they live, we can't just treat the planet like our personal garbage can.

She better hope to god that her tv show doesn't shoot any footage or expect her to do publicity work in Japan.

Many scientists from many countries say that there are a large number of minke whales
'which is the only kind japanese take now' therefore, not like bowhead whales,
minkes are not gonna become extinct if they are caught to some extent.
It's not big deal as long as they don't take more than the number of whales IWC decides.
Whales are not tasty so I think they are not gonna try to catch many whales any way.
I just worry if the number of whales increase by simply regulating taking whales,
the number of many other fish decreases and the number of ship hit and damaged by whales increases.
Whale hunt may be necessary to keep the sustainable environment.
I haven't heard that dolphins are killed for food in Japan.
I think many Japanese people don't know that and they don't think dolphins are food...
I think dolphins are not harmful and shouldn't be killed.
I'm sorry for pigs and cows and many others killed by human beings whether they are farmed or not.
Research on the toxicity of whales and fish should be done more though.

The comment about cultural tradition being senseless and outdated is the only thing I found bad. If you think about it, CHRISTMAS is a cultural tradition. Is it senseless and outdated? There are traditions that are morally degrading, but interfering is something to be debated on. Personal choice should be respected, that's what I think.

For now, I understand her point about helping the dolphins. They ARE in danger, but she shouldn't have handled the situation so drastically. There are smarter ways to let the Japanese people continue their traditions, and still preserve the dolphins' numbers. IT's all about regulation and control. The same goes for all the other animals we eat. We raise and protect these animals so we can be sure that they don't run out.

It's not just Japan hunting down animals you know. There's a lot of illegal trade in animals going on. Those guys should be arrested, because they're only interested in the money there. At least the dolphins are killed for a good reason.

And stop those racist comments against the Japanese. Seriously. You have no right to call them "~toot~ Japs". What do you think of yourselves huh? Don't cross the line.

And Mr Sensitivity: Seriously. YOU try being so poor that all you'll be thinking about is what to feed your family in the evening and how you'll survive the next storm. You try living in a shanty that could be blown away by the next gust of wind. You probably don't even know the conditions in any other country other than your own. Don't blame these people if they're not like you. 90 percent of the time, it's not even their fault.

I agree with many on here who have stated that the cultural practice of the Japanese should be respected, but I also believe that times have changed and that the way that dolphins may have been hunted for in the past is not the same way they are hunted for now. I'm certain that Japanese fisherman are hunting far more dolphins in a shorter time period than before and that should be very alarming!!! Although I don't believe that Japanese fisherman should be forced to change or have ideas imposed on them regarding their fishing practices, I do think it's their responsibilty to re-evaluate this cultural practice and come up with a more sustainable way of subsisting...even if that means stopping this practice all together. I can't help but think that these fisherman must recognize or soon will that their resource is depleting in the wild and that they will be out of that livelihood one way or the other. I mean no dis-respect to no one with this comment...PEACE!!!

I think Japan needs another 15 million degree C "sun" in their land of the rising sun, since they still have not woke up from Pearl Harbor. Obstruction of Commerce? That is a bunch of stupid $h!t and a corrupt self serving law. I hope Hayden thumbs her nose at this joke of a country. Everyone has to learn new things and change jobs, its the global economy. I dont give a rat's a$$ about the "poor" fisherman and their families. They can retrain and find modern ways of making a living JUST like very one else. Customs and tradition my a$$ I have NO sympathy for those animals (the fisherman in case you are not keeping up). Guess they are still a 2nd world backwater country after all. There are 6.5 billiion of us and ALOT fewer dolphins, leave em alone!
