Alison Sweeney: Biggest Loser Season Is "Scary"

Wednesday – September 30, 2009 – 2:51pm

Alison Sweeney admits this season of The Biggest Loser -- which showed two contestants going to the hospital on the Sept. 15 premiere -- is "scary."

"It's a difficult experience. What people don't realize is that when you are that out of shape and you haven't been doing anything to move your body, your body is in for a rude awakening," the host, 33, told Usmagazine.com at the Rock a Little, Feed a Lot benefit concert in Los Angeles Tuesday.

During a one-mile run challenge, Tracey collapsed near the finish line and was airlifted to a hospital. Mo was treated for dehydration.

"It certainly was scary to me this season, but we have a lot of medical staff backing us up and making sure they are OK," Sweeney says. "If anything, it's a lesson. Get out there and walk and move your body."

When asked if the show is safe, Sweeney insists, "Absolutely!"

She says the players underestimate how tough it will be to compete on the NBC show.

"The Biggest Losers contestants always come and say, 'I didn't realize it was going to be this hard. I thought it was just TV.' I mean, do you watch the show?" she tells Us.

Despite the rough start, she says the season is "going great. I think people are really relating to how amazing the contestants are and how sincere they are and I just think they are making a big difference."

Plus, it's keeping Sweeney -- who welcomed daughter Megan Hope in January -- "motivated to hit the gym," she admits.

It's a show meant to garner ratings. It's done amazing things to help a select few drastically change their lives as well as inspire countless others to change their habits and get fit/live healthy lifestyles. I personally can say I would LOVE the opportunity to have Jillian or Bob scream at me. Sometimes it really does take a person getting screamed at for them to get real with themself because they live with the 'i can't' mentality, when really, they CAN. That screaming has motivated people in part to believing that yes, they absolutely CAN do things they never dreamt possible, so in the end, is it cruel what they are doing with the screaming, or is it the most loving thing they could ever do for another person?

Hey guys, the show is on NBC. You might want to correct that ASAP. As for the poster that is complaining about Jillian's yelling and humiliating and such. This is LIFE boot camp for these people. Her tactics are similar to military boot camp. You have to break these people down to nothing before you can help build them back up. The contestants are on this show because of bad LIFE habits, habits that need to be broken. You can't be sweet and gentle with them and expect them to change. That's probably how their family has been. They need to be yelled at and forced to look at themselves and their situations. Then they can start to rebuild and SAVE their lives.

Jillian is Jillian. She was like this in season 1 and she will continue to be like this. If the contestants can't handle it, they should stay home. The only reason why this is news now is because the show is a huge success. People always try to find something wrong with success. Which is why people hype the drama on American Idol.

Jillian is a total bitch - she was so out of line on the first show. It was disgusting how she picked the heaviest woman as an easy target and berated her at the first weigh-in for being THE HEAVIEST CONTESTANT EVER!!! And then to pick on the poor woman relentlessly in the first workout and humilate her and disrespect her by cursing, yelling and physically grabbing her by the neck of her t-shirt and not letting up until the contestant said she couldn't look Jillian in the eye because she was ashamed of herself. Jillian is NO LIFE COACH, either. I've hear she has no license nor formal training to counsel the contestants. And Bob has turned into her little bitch too.
