Nice comment, The Dean! You must be a really classy guy.

Actress Katherine Heigl is now speaking out about the latest Grey's controversy in which sources incorrectly reported that she had stopped contract negotiations and was not returning for another season.
“I am embarrassed that this has become a public matter and disappointed that Touchstone felt it necessary to divulge private employment information," Heigl said in a statement. "I had hoped I would be able to deal with this issue confidentially with my bosses. I dropped out of the renegotiation simply because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them. No matter how unhappy I am about their decision to respond to this publicly, I continue to be passionate about and committed to this character.”
Following previous reports to the contrary, ABC has issued a statement on Wednesday to Grey's Anatomy fans, assuring them that Heigl was NOT leaving the show and that she was indeed being rewarded for all her hard work.
"Katherine is an integral part of Grey's Anatomy and its success. Fortunately, we have a long-term contract to ensure she'll be with the show for several years to come. In recognition of her tremendous talent and value to the show, we recently approached Katherine with an offer to raise her compensation significantly above the terms of her current contract. We were surprised to see this gesture reported negatively in the press, and want to reassure fans that she will continue as Izzie Stevens."

Clintastic: "Somehow, several other members of the Grey's ensemble have managed to negotiate bonuses and raises without as much public brouhaha. She - and her management - should've taken better notes."
you may want to check out the new york post website. there's an article dated march 6, 2007 about isaiah washington's contract troubles.
people do have short memories. has everybody forgotten patrick dempsey's contract squabble with the network? it only happened just a few months ago. now isaiah is having troubles with his negotiation. what's the common thread here? ABC Touchstone.
there was nothing in the original people.com report that says it was katherine's people who leaked the story. ABC Touchstone's statement also never denied putting it in the press. besides, the article only credited the report to a "well-placed source". how reliable is that?
we are all just reacting to media reports. we may never know what happened and who leaked the stories so i think we should all just stop being so judgemental of the girl and get on with our lives.
"If it weren't for Katherine Heigl, many people probably wouldn't have tuned in to see its premiere. A lot of fans of Roswell followed her to Grey's Anatomy and stayed to watch her and the show."
Hmm... No one would say that KH doesn't have a fan base, but there are three higher-profile, award-winning film actors in the cast in the show (which had a plum initial timeslot behind Desperate Housewives before the bloom fell of that rose). KH is a part of an ensemble. She's hardly the linchpin for your average viewer when ten times as many people tune into Grey's than watched Roswell on the WB. She definitely has worth to the producers and the network, but she is far from being anymore a star of the show than most of the rest of the core cast.
Somehow, several other members of the Grey's ensemble have managed to negotiate bonuses and raises without as much public brouhaha. She - and her management - should've taken better notes.
I would choke this useless white sl*t to death while making love to her lifeless corpse. F*ck Izzy, and f*ck her.
I love her character. I think she is a very good actress and the show has kept my attention. With each show I sit on the edge of my seat. Hopefully Grey's Anatomy will be on for a long time..also the men are really hot.!!
If it weren't for Katherine Heigl, many people probably wouldn't have tuned in to see its premiere. A lot of fans of Roswell followed her to Grey's Anatomy and stayed to watch her and the show.
She has been able to stand her own ground as Izzy Stevens as well as an actor. She stood up for what she believes in regardless of the consequences that may arise. Most actors would probably keep their mouths shut just so they can get paid.
Grey's Anatomy owes her a lot, and should therefore pay her a lot too.
very well said, anon 10:46!
grey's anatomy is an ensemble show. they may focus a little bit more on the mer-der dynamic but all the characters contribute to it's success. otherwise, they would have done a show about only derek and meredith. it will definitely be a big loss if izzie or any of the interns and doctors leave.
i admire katherine for standing up for herself. she is under contract but actors have an option to renegotiate after a few years. no actor would ask for a lot of money at the beginning of a show when they still don't know if it would be a hit. it did become a hit, that's why they are all renegotiating their contracts. why else would the bosses even waste their time negotiating with her?
remember patrick dempsey's renegotiation just a few months ago? it also caused quite a stir then. notice any similarity? i think it's touchstone who leaked both negotiations to gain some media leverage ("let's make the actress look greedy so we can keep giving her crappy pay"). I don't think she's greedy. she's just asking for what she deserves. give her equal pay, touchstone!
Ms Heigl's arms are not the issue here! For those who take issue with her weight and looks, have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately? I'm thankful that the producers of Grey's hired two female cast members (Heigl and Ramirez) who are relatively normal-sized, not stick insects. Heigl's arms aren't fat - they're normal. And while Ramirez looks big as compared to other female cast members, in reality she's just average. Our perceptions have become horribly skewed, is all. Heigl and Ramirez reflect reality to a certain extent, for which I am grateful.
As far as characters go, I find Izzy a bit of a nonentity, but she's no more annoying than Christine with her 'I'm so darn driven and unemotional' persona, or McDreamy's 'All I have to do is twinkle and they'll melt' crapola. But hey, together, I think the characters mesh well, and Izzy is at least as much a part of that as George. So more power to Ms Heigl.
clintastic your comment makes sense in explaination, but don't see what it has to do with the one you quoted as that person wrote it. that person is saying that while izzy is not likeable katherine is not her and that is called acting. which has what to do with the producers allowing the actors to have too much control? doh!
---"katherine heigl may seem like her (and this may be a testament to good acting) but she is NOT izzie. she is just an actress delivering lines and taking direction from other people."
--"That's not a "testament to good acting", that's an insecure or uninspired writing staff letting the inmates run the asylum."
-"Say what?"
I'm saying that the show's writing staff who are also some of the producers of the show seem like they are letting some of the above-the-line talent run around without a leash when they shouldn't and it's affecting the writing and public profile of the show. While the cast is very talented, the show does not belong to them. Really, none of the actors should be seeking out controversy with perhaps the exception of Pompeo, the show's titular character, and maybe Dempsey. Those two pretty much have a lock on their jobs, but "Grey's" is an ensemble show and the show's staff have shown a real knack for bringing in new cast additions.
It would be fairly easy to cycle the often emotionally unhinged and unprofessional surgeon 'Izzie' out and bring in another talented actor - of which there is no shortage - to play a new role. Perhaps that new actor would do a better job of aggressively promoting the show and less aggressively promoting bad press or viewer ill-will. Who knows - maybe an actor who wasn't part of the pilot cast, but who does a better job at promoting the show and not perpetuating bad press might even get the chance to have a spin-off show built around his/herself?
Doh!
Seriously, you hit the nail on the head! I was going to say the exact same thing - the reason Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington get paid more is because Sandra's won awards for her work on the show, not just been nominated like Ms. Heigl, and Isaiah had a pretty successful film career before he landed the show. These people have clout, she doesn't so instead of bleeping right now, build up your resume so that you can be on the same level as them and get the same pay - it's that simple. I also agree that she may even get paid the same amount as Justin Chambers, TR Knight, and Sara Ramirez, but you don't hear them complaining and they do the same amount of work as she does! She just didn't think her actions through that clearly at all and her camp didn't act professionally.....
at least on friends they didn't ostresize each other. KH stepped away from the group by speaking out in an unprofessional way and showing no remorse for her comments. she even said before her statement about IW that she was 'probably going to get in trouble for this' and this is the result. she made her bed. i don't feel sorry for her at all. she still makes more money than all of us for doing nothing.
I definitely think she deserves equal pay. Remember how on Friends they all stuck together and they were all paid the same? They would not be broken by the studio and it was all for one and one for all. Anything other than that is going to cause this type of situation. And come on people, you may not be a fan of KH, but to say she is fat and ugly...that is just ignorant. I hope the GA cast can stick together and stop competing among each other before they bring down the show, which is absolutely my favorite on tv right now.
She is a spoiled little brat with a big head! I am glad they cut her down to size. Hope she learns to be a bit more appreciative and humble in the future! Izzie is a bit part anyhow. They can get another one like her in a minute!
As a man I think that this show totally objectifies men. This is a "chick" show written by a "chick".
I watched a few episodes in the first season and realized that this was a show about high school girls and their crushes disguised as an adult show in a hospital setting. All that was missing was "the prom" and apparently my girlfriend told me that they found a way to have one.
Why would any normal man be interested in this show?
i dont watch it now
Hey "The Dean" - you only wish you could have someone look half as good as her to even come near you. Your comment is ignorant. There is no such thing as a perfect human being.
Is it just me, or does she need to lose some weight. I didn't notice at first, but look at her belly, and those HUGE arms. Her face still looks good, but you don't usually f*ck the face :)
Uhhh, Anonymous 12:17, her reps leaked it to see if people would be enraged on her behalf and think that she might leave the show. It backfired. And I find out everyday that some of my coworkers make twice as much as me, especially if they have more accolades and experience. That's how it is for most professions - you work not whine your way to the top.
Seriously, if you found out your co workers were making twice as much as you were for doing the same job you wouldn't be pissed off? Be real! She has every right to negotiate her contract. It's not her fault someone leaked some of her conversation out to the whole world to get even with her for having a back bone. Definitely the producers did that. Touchstone right? Nice job idiots!
I think it was unprofessional and antagonistic of her to single out Sandra and Isaiah. If she is "the least paid" why didn't she single the others out? The answer is that she probably gets paid more than or equal to TR, Eric Dane, Sara Ramirez, etc. Sandra Oh has already WON a Globe and a SAG for this role and that alone would help her in pay negotiations, besides the fact that her resume is far superior as is IW's. Get off the high horse Katie, oh that's right, ABC already knocked you off of it.
I only have a few minutes before I have to get back to actual work again, but if she actually had a big part, then I would support her asking for money. The fact of the matter is--she is not as big as part of the show as Sandra Oh or Isaiah WAshington. She does not deserve to make as much--that would be silly. maybe if she actually had a lead role, but she doesn't. That is the same thing as paying someone with a bit part the same as the lead character and that is ridiculous. It isn't the same amount of work, those two leaving the show would actually affect it, and she is greedy and arrogant to presume that she deserves as much and for much less work to boot.
does anyone know what the definition of a diva is? i could of sworn it had something to do with being a singer...
This wasn't an issue of having more money than everyone else. Heigl actually was one of the least paid on the show. All she wanted was equal pay to that of what Sandra Oh and Isaiah Washington were making. I mean, I, myself think it wrong to pay Isaiah Washington (the same one who is in hot water over attacking another castmasts life choices and being a jerk to his peers and coworkers) as Katie. She has paid her dues, why not allow her equal pay as her coworkers. I don't think this was about her being a diva. Also, would you want your bosses going to the press or even to other people in your workplace and saying well, "Johnson here is trying to nickle and dime us and ask us for more money." No, you wouldn't want that. I think that's why she was like "it's wrong of them to go public with this" I say she deserves it, and should have it, drama free.
i'll admit i enjoy grey's but what is turning me off the show is how unprofessional this girl is being. she needs to follow her own advice and just not speak in public again.
she seems to be a bully and will pay the price for that.
Ahk! This girl (heigl) needs to GO!!!! What a friggin' diva! It would serve her right to be removed from the show... then maybe she would realize her jr. high days really are over.
Anon 2:05, you have a point. I don't think she's being greedy or arrogant - if Katherine thinks she's entitled to make as much as her costars, then she should stick up for herself and demand a much higher salary. But do it in a classy way. The way she and Touchstone handled the situation was really unprofessional. In order for Touchstone to have come out and released a statement about her not leaving the show, someone in her camp must've gone out and blabbed to someone about her negotiations for it to have been whispered all over Hollywood. That's never a good idea to try and haggle with producers, or any boss for that matter, by making them look like idiots. The fact is, she's not that important to the show. Yes, she added a very colorful dynamic in the beginning, but the show has tons of characters on it now and wouldn't hesitate to drop kick any one of them (that isn't Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo or Sandra Oh) to the curb - they can always replace people they find to be troublemakers. That's what happened to David Coruso like someone else mentioned, Suzanne Somers in her Three's Company days (when she thought she was bigger than the show's star, John Ritter) - they got rid of her and she couldn't get work in TV for years until Step by Step came along in the '90s, two decades later!
greys anatomy sucks. i saw like 2 minutes of that show and was ready to shoot myself. GO DALLAS MAVERICKS!!!
I like Katherine and she plays her Grey's Anatomy character well. I am tired of the George, Christina and Burke storyline. Too many Dr.'s involved with each other it's getting boring.
I think her character could be written out of the show with no problems--it would make the show even better. She will learn that the diva act and being known as demanding and greedy is not a smart thing and people won't put up with it. She should look at David Caruso--yes he has CSI Miami now, but remember him when he was in NYPD Blue? Then he left a very good show, popular at the time--thinking he deserved money, would make movies--basically got a very big head---and really until he got CSI Miami he had nothing.
