Helio Castroneves Wins Dancing With the Stars

For the third season in a row, a professional male athlete has been named the champion of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

Brazilian race-car driver and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves beat out Spice Girl Melanie Brown and Marie Osmond (who was eliminated 15 minutes into the show) for the prized mirror ball trophy Tuesday. It was the second consecutive win for his partner, Julianne Hough, who won last season’s show with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

"It's amazing!" Castroneves, 32, told Usmagazine.com of his win after the show. "I'm speechless! I just proved to everybody that I really can dance!"

After his win, his sister brought him a jug of milk. "When you win the Indianapolis 500, they give you milk and that’s why [she] gave me the milk," he explained to Us.

Though Brown and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy entered Tuesday night’s final round of competition in first place (by one point) and were the highest scoring couple of the season, they failed to rack up enough of the audience vote to secure the title.

However, they did score a perfect 30 from the judges after performing their favorite routine of the entire season, the mambo, one final time Tuesday.

Castroneves and Hough revisited their quick step, which also earned them perfect marks. But in the end, it was the viewer votes that allowed them to take home the mirror ball trophy.

Congratulations for Helio and Juliane. It was beautiful to see them dancing each night of Dancing with Stars. They brought brightness to the show. Viewers could feel the joy and beauty of dancing with them and the other dancers. Helio showed viewers that people can do and win, after many mistakes. I am very happy by them. Beijos(kisses) for all dancers, how Brazilian people give congratulations.

Thanks for the inside scoop 2:07 - I can totally see that. I just think there's something off about them and I was so glad to see the judges finally be honest when she did that doll dance. All around weird! This is just an assumption on my part, but I feel like you wouldn't have a chance at being normal growing up in the spotlight like that! That's probably why they'll do anything for attention. I felt like Lisa Rinna and her hubby Whathisface were like that too!

Pay attention moron.....lol, you must be on crack or are crackish! Koodoo's to Helio and Julianne....they are adorable and deserved it just as much as Mel B. Hey, there's always a loser and Mel B. was it.....it's a technicallity and nothing more. They were both excellent! Julianne was a dream to look at because of her little girl ways and looks. To I heart gossip. Someone I worked for in Cali lived close to him and their kids went to school together. She said Donny was always trying to make the kids do plays and he loved being the center of attention. She was down right rude! Anyway that was ages ago, he was living in Irvine at the time. Not much has changed.

I THINK WE JUST EXPERIENCED THE GREATEST SEASON OF DANCING WITH THE STARS. ALL THE STARS DID AMAZING JOBS AND IMPROVED SHOW AFTER SHOW. HAVING TAKEN LATIN DANCE CLASSES I CAN TELL YOU IT IS NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS. YOU NEED TO BE IN GREAT SHAPE AND REALLY DEVOTE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT INTO PRACTICING AND MASTERING THE TECHNIQUES.
BRAVO TO ALL THE STARS WHO PARTICIPATED. THEY ARE ALL WINNERS IN MY EYES.

While Mel B was technically the superior dancer, Helio came farther than any of the other competitors, and his personality and charisma pushed him over the top. Of course, having Julianne for a partner sure didn't hurt--ask Apolo Ohno! Sabrina had a dance background, so did Mel, so I'm glad neither of them won. In Sabrina's case, I think the fact that she was so heavy-footed and manic kept a lot of people from voting for her. Mel? People reacted to the fact that while it wasn't strictly "ballroom," she did have a stage/entertainment background that included some dance. Also, I think the very obvious tattoo turned off some people who might otherwise have voted for her. Yes, they are much more popular today than they used to be, but still--to many, many people it shows a lack of class. Notice that NONE of the professional dancers have tatoos--the women OR the men. Her costume people should have designed costumes that covered it. Anyway, congratulations to Helio--he started out a total non-dancer, and look where he ended up. :)

Mel B was an awesome dancer she should have won I am so disappointed. She is fun and she can dance!!! Honestly I don’t think Helio can dance his partner covered for him a lot ………….. big disappointment

I wouldn't have minded which way the finale went unless "poor me" Marie had won.

Both Mel and Helio were good but IMHO, Julianne is a far, far better choreographer than Maks and Helio's personality and charm were unbeatable. :-) I was happy to see someone with no dancing experience win and I hope they reconsider having anyone on the show who has danced before....ballroom or not.

Way to go Helio, i'm so glad they won!!! I think it's great that someone with no "entertainment" background won. Mel B. was great but she has dance expereince, i think THAT'S what impressed people about Helio. I am glad Mel B. did the show, it's what she needed after all her Baby Daddy drama, people got to see the real her and i think she's a great woman.
