I always enjoy this kind of story. I am actually excited about it. It just may be my personal history though. I certainly realize that generally my taste in movies and TV is not the usual fare. I wouldn't worry about any lack of producing experience, I am sure that Jolie and Pitt will hire the appropriate talent to pull together a quality series. I think one of the Bourne writers is associated with it. HBO will give them a free hand to be as realistic as necessary.

When it doesn't come from the heart, it doesn't ring true. Too bad Brad and Angelina don't see it that way.

They have a couple of problems with making a successful show out of this. The first, as other bloggers pointed out, is that they have little experience. The second is far more significant. Producing a show or a work of art requires values. Without values, what will they present? Values are inextricably linked to one's vision of the world. They will present some horrible vision of the world where everything is irredeemably awful and everybody is hopelessly flawed but worthy of compassion anyway. No one wants to watch that. For example, their "God Grew Tired of Us" is about some African immigrants to America who essentially get bored with life in America. Once again, except for a few buffoon art critics, no one wants to watch a show about how sad it is for an immigrant getting bored with eating potato chips. It is not only a "downer" and not inspiring, but it does not ring true. People who live in America know that life is much better here than in Africa and that there are opportunities here, so presenting these Africans as objects to pity does not go over well with the general audience. I predict this same philosophy will infect their series.

Actually, only Brad Pitt has produced "extensively" and always with more veteran producing partners. Angelina Jolie is a novice as a film producer.

You're correct, Angelina Jolie is nothing but an endless parade of narcissism, and, no doubt, this film will continue that trend for her. She is probably making it to create more faux credibility for herself, which has become largely laughable. She is beginning to become truly pathetic. Poor Brad Pitt, and those poor four innocent children. What a circus - complete with clowns.
