Nylon- As a trained ABA therapist (ABA = applied behavior analysis... we're the ones who study and work with these children and adults)I can tell you that you are incorrect. Yes, they do go to special schools, but they are not typical special education schools you would find DD or LD children in. Most of them do attend regular schools. I also find it funny how you can "correct" others, but when they comment in return you get defensive. Calling another poster an "autistic reta*d" shows what your level of functioning is. I'm assuming it is somewhere around the 5th grade level? Furthermore, homosexuality was also once classed under mental illness. When people do not understand the behaviors of others it tends to be considered an "illness" until we begin to learn more.

  @Heidi: By deffinition, autism is mental disorder. Which bassicaly means the child is (mentaly) ill. I`m not insulting the little ones but it is the truth. "These children are exceptionally brilliant."- they are not brilliant, most of them have to go to special schools or get educated within the special programs and vast majority of them never gets better or start to function normally. They live in their heads, like most mentaly ill people do. @Jill: Fu*k off, bi*ch.

  Her son is not "ill" or "mentally disabled." He is one of the 1 in 91 children (1:58 boys) in this country whose mental ABILITIES lie within the Autism Spectrum. These children are exceptionally brilliant. You have obviously never had the chance to know one of these angels or you would know that, while they may act differently than other children, they see the world in ways we cannot begin to comprehend. Way to go Jenny for never giving up on Evan. And God bless Jim for embracing him and not running away from the "pressure" as his father did.

  Nylon...the beard is so screamingly obvious and terrible, one can't help but comment...hope it is just for the movie. Meanwhile I like these 2...seem like a nice, down to earth, happy couple. :)
