"Tom [Cruise] does not and never has encouraged anyone to adopt Scientology," Cruise's rep tells Us.
According to a source in the new issue of Us Weekly, however, that isn't the case.
"Tom left the Beckhams 18 messages in one hour to get them to join the church," the Cruise insider says.
And in 2005, he criticized Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants for her post-partum depression, telling Matt Lauer that, as a Scientologist, he believes psychiatry is a pseudo-science.
He got his Catholic mom to take the religion’s “Way to Happiness” course in 2004.
And, come to think of it, in 2003, he told Katie Couric that Scientology was responsible for his happiness and success, and called it “the fastest growing religion.”
“It’s helped so many people,” he said. “I know it, because I use it and I am a Scientologist. And it’s extraordinary, is what it is.”
