Idols Share Performance Tips as Season Seven Audition Cities Announced

Just one month after Idol crowned its sixth season champ, Fox has announced plans for season seven’s audition rounds.

Kicking off July 28 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, auditions will continue through August and visit at least six cities. The traditional audition stops like New York and Los Angeles will be skipped, and Simon, Randy and Paula will instead travel to locals like Omaha, Atlanta and Miami.

As future Idols ready their pipes and prepare to face the judges, Us rounded up a few season six standouts to offer their best audition strategies to the potential new contestants.

Blake Lewis – “Be true to yourself and go with your instinct.”

Jordin Sparks- “Connect with the audience. You have to connect with that camera and the people who are watching to convey emotions through the song. So, don't look dead!”

Melinda Doolittle - “Leave it all out there on the stage. Believe what you’re singing. Tell the story and don't worry about the judges. Just get out there and it'll come out right.”

LaKisha Jones - “Stay focused and be true to yourself.”

Gina Glocksen - “Make sure you're confident in yourself. Don't go if you're not confident, because they'll sense that right away and you'll get dropped the first round. Make yourself stand out any way you can, go there with the utmost confidence, and sing a song that isn't sung every year on Idol - not Al Green, Whitney Houston and definitely not Etta James."
