BIO

Born August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia, Chris Hemsworth became a household name when he played the title role in 2011's Thor.

Long before he portrayed the iconic superhero, Hemsworth (whose brothers, Luke and Liam, are also actors) appeared on the soap opera Home and Away. After three years and 171 episodes, he left the series to make a name for himself in Hollywood. In 2009, he was cast as George Kirk in the opening scenes of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek.

Though Liam originally auditioned for Thor, director Kenneth Branagh was more impressed with the elder Hemsworth. The 6' 3" star will reprise his role in The Avengers, scheduled for release in 2012.

Hemsworth wed Spanish actress Elsa Pataky in December 2010. They are currently expecting their first child together.
