Sharon Osbourne: “I Felt Like Such a Cheat” After Weight Loss Surgery

Sharon Osbourne admits she felt like she cheated by getting gastric band surgery to lose weight back in 1999

Sometimes the quickest way isn't the best way. Gastric band surgery helped Sharon Osbourne lose more than a hundred pounds back in 1999, but as she revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, it wasn't the all-encompassing solution she really needed—or even wanted.

"I felt [like] such a cheat when I had that band on my stomach, and people are saying, 'You look wonderful!'" the Talk co-host, 61, told ET. "And I'd go, 'Thank you, I just have to leave and vomit.'"

Osbourne's weight wasn't even the real issue—her struggle with food was. "We all have our own little addictions that we do not in moderation but too much, and mine is food," she explained. "I mean, I am a food addict."

Over time, she's learned to control her urges, in part thanks to the low-carb Atkins diet, which she has promoted on TV in recent years. "I'd be fibbing if I said I don't cheat. Because I do cheat," she confessed. "I cheat a lot on my diet. We all do."

What matters, she said, is that she gets back on track. "I don't guilt myself out," she told ET, "because the next day, I'll start with my Atkins breakfast sandwich, and I'm right back on it."
