Spencer Pratt: I Gained 50 Pounds Eating Pie, Hills Producers Wanted Me to Leave Heidi Montag at the Altar

Spencer Pratt reveals he gained 50 pounds from eating pie after The Hills.

“I don’t think we’ve ever gotten to be the real Heidi and Spencer on TV,” Hills alum Spencer Pratt declared on his Dec. 9 E! special, After Shock: Heidi and Spencer. So it’s hard to tell if Pratt, now 30, and his plastic surgery-happy wife Heidi Montag, now 27, were being themselves on this new special. But the couple did open up about playing the villains for six seasons on the show.

In the hour-long special, Pratt and Montag spoke candidly about following the instructions of Hills producers to fake scenes and stir up drama. Pratt recalled one particular scene when he kicked Montag out of his car after she refused to move in with him. See more pics of Spencer and Heidi here.

“We shot like 14 or 15 takes of that from different angles, and then she got back in my car, and we drove off,” he revealed.

Montag also revealed that her Hills wedding, which was the mid-season finale in 2009 (and Lauren Conrad‘s final episode on the show), took two hours as producers begged Pratt to leave her at the altar. In the end, he refused, and the couple married in front of cast members and family.

Montag says she regrets not having a more personal ceremony with her actual friends after the televised wedding. She said her family also got wrapped up in the fame that The Hills brought. After Montag’s highly-publicized 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day, her mother, Darlene Egelhoff, said she liked her daughter’s face before the procedures.

“That was like a knife in my heart,” Montag revealed. Following those comments, the two didn’t speak for two years before reconciling.

Since the show, the couple has moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., about an hour away from Los Angeles. They revealed they’d blown through $10 million in 2010, and have since tried to get a handle back on their finances. Pratt, as Us Weekly previously reported, is finishing up a political science degree at the University of Southern California that’s been 10 years in the making.

He’s also trying to get back in shape after gaining 50 pounds thanks to his apparent addiction to pie. In After Shock, Pratt and Montag visit a local farmer’s market where the former bad boy begs his wife to purchase multiple flavors of the baked dessert. Pratt tries to balance his pie addiction with trips to his personal trainer, who he says has helped him to focus and control his infamous rage.

Pratt said people on the street still flick him off, attack him, and try to fight him. It’s this image that makes him hesitant to start a family with his bride of four years.

“I wouldn’t want to be Spencer Pratt’s kid,” he said, concerned that his future offspring would be bullied for his antics in the media. “I’d have a kid if there was no Google or YouTube.”
