Alan Thicke Talks Son Robin’s Split, Kirk Cameron Bailing on Growing Pains Reunion

Lay it on Thicke! Alan Thicke and his wife, Tanya Callau, stopped by the Us Weekly offices to discuss their new quasi-reality TV show, Unusually Thicke, and a few other topics of interest including his son Robin’s recent split from Paula Patton.

“From my perspective, I always let Robin speak through his music,” the legendary actor says of his son. “He’s in the middle of a great album right now. A lot of power in the album.”

The elder Thicke adds of his son and Patton, “We love them, they’re great people. Whatever they decide to do, it will be the right thing.” Callau pipes in, “Whatever they decide, we’re all as a family very supportive of everyone’s happiness.”

That support extends to the family’s latest onscreen endeavor — but it didn’t always. “I had to coerce my husband to do this project with me,” Callau tells Us of Unusually Thicke. The show is described as a “reality-comedy with sketches with real things that have happened to us in our lives.”

Thicke offers one example of a scene involving his former Growing Pains costar Kirk Cameron. The scene centers around a potential reunion for the 1980s sitcom cast — with a special appearance by another sitcom star, Full House‘s John Stamos.
