On May 6, Britain’s News of the World published video stills from the early hours of March 8 that allegedly seemed to show actress Lindsay Lohan sharing cocaine with a female companion at Hollywood’s Teddy’s nightclub.
“The whole thing is honestly very sad,” a source close to Lohan tells Us. “She’s a very young girl living a high-profile life…It’s hard for her to resist temptations.”
It remains to be seen whether the scandal will ruin her career, but Lohan’s first step on the road to image recovery: “She has to give a sincere public apology and say that she will seek counseling again,” public relations guru Howard Rubenstein tells Us Weekly.
Her Georgia Rule costar Jane Fonda is pulling for her: "We can't know what it's like to grow up famous starting at 12 with such family problems," Fonda tells Us. "We have to give Lindsay a break sometimes and be a little more understanding."
One example the 20-year-old actress can take heart in? Kate Moss, who scored ad campaigns for Dior and Calvin Klein (and launched a clothing line) in the wake of a similar cocaine scandal in 2005.
As for Lohan, says Rubenstein, “If she shows remorse, the public will forgive her.”
