Jessica Simpson's first country concert was met with mixed reactions.
Audiences booed and clapped as the singer, 28, opened for Sara Evans on Saturday at the Country Thunder USA festival in Randall, Wisconsin.
"I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas," Simpson told the crowd. "I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy."

She dedicated the tune "You're My Sunday" to beau Tony Romo, who was in the audience, and performed a slew of covers — including Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" — as well as her new single "Come On Over."

One concertgoer told the local paper: "I'll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert."
Added another: "She's an embarrassment to country music."
Not all were haters.
One fan told the paper, "I actually like her country songs better. She has a great voice, plus, she's adorable."
Despite the lukewarm buzz, her father Joe recently told Usmagazine.com his daughter — whose album drops September 9 - is ready for country.
"It feels really good," he said of her album. "She is extremely happy."

I don't like it. It feels way too needy and fake to me and I actually like Jessica Simpson. She seems like a genuinely sweet person. If she were my neighbor, we'd get lattes together.
JESSICA WAS BOOED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JESSICA
IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO ANY ALL MUSIC INDUSTRY. JESSICA HAS NO TALENT. JESSICA IS DUMB. JESSICA IS STUPID. JESSICA IS UGLY. JESSICA IS FUGLY. JESSICA IS FAT. JESSICA BRAINLESS BLONDE. JESSICA IS A WHO.RE. JESSICA IS A CU.NT. JESSICA IS A BIT.CH. JESSICA IS A SL.UT. I HATE JESSICA. I HATE HER I HATE HER I HATE HER.
She was horrible at country thunder. When she said she was going to sing two songs at the end everyone was like NOOOOO! and then she like oh yeah you want me to. She should not be a country singer, or a singer at all. Tony should have definitely stuck with Carrie Underwood. Jessica was absolutely terrible, I had to leave the concert it was that bad. She is definitely an embarrassment to country. And should never go to country thunder again, as a matter of fact should never sing a country song again.
she can't act & she can't sing country!
she cant sing. she sucks at country music. it all sounds horrible. listen to some alan jackson or montgomery gentry or some good ol BOCEPHUS thats what contry musicc is not jessica Simpson
I was at Country Thunder and saw Kellie Pickler & Jessica Simpson, Sarah Evans, I want to tell ya this Jessica can sing I really wasn't a big fan of her's to begin with but please people give this girl some credit, give her a shot. My daughter was at this concert w/ me and I want to tell ya it was my daughters highlight on life to see Kellie Pickler & Jessica Simpson. We were amazed on how good she really is. She has an amazing voice and she is putting it to good use. I am sorry but the people that bash Jessica.. they are plainly jealous!! Go Jessica, keep doing what you love to do. We saw Tony there that night and he looks like he is very much in love with you! Don't bother mentioning all the tabloids at your next concert... just go with what you like to do and don't let these
cruddy tabloids bring you down. I will look forward to your cd, thanks for the great show.
Just take off your top and stop with the singing crap already. The only talent she has is her chest. What a dunce. That family is worse than the Spears clan.
Hop over to "She's Gone Country" by Alan Jackson.
It's about a fading performer that takes one last pathetic stab at fame by falsely inventing herself as a country singer.
She even has lines that we have heard from Jessica like "I'm going back to my roots" and "Look at these boots"
Spooky

She has her perfume in this video! This is not art - this is a giant commercial. Name one other country performer that has done this. Jessica please plop more fake hair on your head and sell your wares in the marketplace and not in the revered realm of Country music - some respect please!
Sweet Jessica. It would help her case greatly if she demonstrated a modicum of HUMILITY. But even that's too hard for her. No wonder Nick Lachey was constantly baffled about what he saw in her.
Yeah!!! Jimmie Rodgers is rolling over in his grave (and has been doing so since around the time "Big Texas" formed....probably even earlier)
Let me get this straight....Jessica Simpson is the disgrace to country music? Let's not forget the fact that the stuff on country radio today is more like a collection of really crappy rock bands and even crappier lite-rock bands...with fiddles, steel guitars and embellished accents. That being the case, she fits right in. Seems like the next logical step is a duet with Michael W. Smith and the cheese crap music triangle will be complete!! Call all of it what you want...love it...hate it....just don't call it country. Any of it.
I think it's Jessica's dad that people hate. Being a youth pastor more than likely teaching kids morals. Then he raises his kid to be a soft pron model. That's what she is.
I think the public hates her becuase of the way she was raised and now as an adult she has no conviction.
I think she's just a spoiled rotton messed up person.
Go back to your roots Jess and redeem yourself already before you fall into depression because people don't accept you the way they did in church.
By the way they probably tolerated you because you were a PK.not because they liked you.
Now we are debating the quality of country music vs. pop? Shoot me, please.
Well lets see?? She is scheduled to appear at the Grand Ole Opry, her record is 18 on media right now,she has made history with her country song, she is a beautiful young woman with a great heart, she can be funny as hell(which few get to see) so if she recieved any boo's it couldn't be many. ON another note there is not an artist out there that has not recieved boo's of somesort at one of there concerts. Its part of performing.
Jess great job keep it up. First time out on stage in 3 years I say go girl. Keep on dreaming your dream. Looking forward to the album also. The girl has found her niche.
For those that don't think the girl has a voice turn your hearing aids on & listen.
To Tony & Jess all the best. Cute as hell couple.
Shes a fake, shes only doing country music cause she failed in pop.
Wow, I get so depressed when I read all these comments. It seems that people have to gripe about someone. I don't know Jessica but my cousin toured with John Mayer and met her then. He said she was very nice and everyone liked her. My cousin was engaged and she asked about wedding plans. He commented that he couldn't understand all the bad things people say about her. I really don't understand why people talk about her and Nick like they know all the dirty laundry. I was not in their life or home, I don't know. But it is amazing how many people who post know all the details of Jessica, Spears, and Cruise.
Here's my prediction....she have a couple of minor hits and the cd will sell a decent amount. Joe will go on to say she will be bigger than Carrie Underwood and Jessica deserves to be inducted into the Opry. Then after Ashlee has the baby she will say "I've always wanted to do a country album, too"! It would be nice if Jess, Ashlee, Paris, Brit, Nicole, Kim K. and all the other reality/tabloid stars would go away!
Jessica's a great performer & a good singer. Love her & will be buying her cd real soon!!
No, I don't think she is viable as a country star or any other.
Jessica is the sweetest most down to earth young woman around & beautiful to boot!!
How many times did she have to mention Tony Romo to get respect from the crowd? Ok, she's dating him, but so what! She sucks! Country or not, she's gonna flop!
Of course she is a viable country star. DUH.
I posted on here somewhere yesterday about my meeting with Jessica Simpson. I run a non-profit organization in Dallas, Texas and I tracked Jessica down to see if she could help us out. I thought maybe she'd make a brief appearance or something like that. Boy, was I wrong. She donated our largest donation ever, came to the entire event, sat with the kids for hours, talked to the parents and the children, helped clean up. I can't tell you how impressed I was with her. If nothing else at all, she is a kind, generous spirit and the word fake is absolutely incorrect. I also love her voice and music, but if you don't you should know that this girl is an amazing person with a great heart. She doesn't deserve to have people bashing her. She still sends us post cards and the kids love drawing pictures for her. She's making another visit this year and I cannot wait. I also really support her orphanage in Mexico, and all of her support for Operation Smile and the troops. On top of that she is beautiful and has an amazing voice. I think she is an awesome soul.
8:02- I've met her several times and have to say quite the opposite. She's always been really great and everyone around her was so happy. I never heard the word annoying from anyone. The first time I met her, girls AND boys were crying. The next few times it was in more of a quiet setting, but I thought she was hilarious and down-to-earth. I liked her a lot and I think she will make a great country star.
Jessica went to my high school. We weren't super close, but we were friends. I've seen her a couple times in the last year and she's just the same as she used to be. She's always been sweet and goofy and not afraid to be herself. Trust me, Jessica has plenty of country in her! I was half expecting her to come back and be a totally different person from high school, and she has grown like we all have, but her personality is totally still there. None of you know her, and I can tell you that she's got a heart of gold and she's got plenty of southern girl in her. You can take a girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of a girl!
I like her country single, so I bet I will like the rest of the album. Good job, Jessica!
I was at Country Thunder and she did well. I didn't even know she was going to be there. I got invited last minute and I was very pleasantly surprised. I really only listen to country music, so to be honest, I had never listened to her songs. I think I had heard a Christmas song and the National Anthem at a sports event. She did amazing on the National Anthem, but other than that I hadn't heard much of her singing at all. I am an avid country music fan, always have been, always will be and I thought she was good. I wouldn't mind having her album and I really like the single.
