One thing that may come out of this sad affair is the reality that an appreciable number of children go missing every year. Let´s hope this will change the way the Portuguese police handle things, at least. Very few abductions have attract the high level of publicity or public awareness of the Madeleine McCann case. Speculation is rife, mystics offer their visions, but the balance of probablity ( according to top British ex-Scotland Yard Child Protection Unit detectives) is that this abduction was carried out by a lone sexual predator, obsessed with the child, and who was offered a golden opportunity by virtue of the parents leaving her and her siblings in an (allegedly) unlocked room. I doubt they would leave even their credit cards in that same unlocked room. So a tragic and terrible error of judgement on their part for which they are paying the highest price. I don´t think there is any point whatsoever to be made by pursuing them for child neglect. What is there to be gained from rubbing salt in these wounds? We can all learn something from this. Assumption - once more -is the mother of all disasters. They were on holiday, relaxed in a family atmosphere, they believed their children to be safe, and they were so very wrong.
