John Mayer is singing the blues about Ryan Seacrest and former Sony Music chairman Don Ienner.

The "Wonderland" singer, 29, tells GQ.com he knew Seacrest, 32, would ask about his fling with Jessica Simpson at this year’s Grammy's in February. Miffed, Mayer decided to take action.

"When Ryan says, 'You know I have to ask you'—which is one of the dumbest prefaces of all time—I think, Maybe I’ll just answer you in Japanese," he
recalls. "And then you’ll have to figure it out." (He says he rehearsed his Japanese-spoken response for three days. It translated into, "She's a lovely woman and I'm glad to be with her.")

Oh, snap!

A source tells Us, "[He and Ryan] are friends. This is something John said in jest."

Mayer wasn't as crafty when he learned that former Sony head Ienner didn't initially dig his latest disc, Continuum. When he got the bad news via his manager, "I cried that day. That was a rough day," he says. "There were other things going on, and I’d quit music in my head for about forty-five minutes."
