Justin Hits Back at Prince

Even the boys get catty during awards show season. Golden Globes presenter Justin Timberlake was finally able to get back at Prince for taking a swipe at him at an Emmys party last year.

Last August, while performing at Entertainment Tonight’s Emmy Awards after party, Prince dissed the former 'NSYNCer's new single "SexyBack," yelling to the crowd, "For whoever is claiming that they are bringing sexy back, sexy never left!"

But Timberlake got his revenge Monday night when he presented the Golden Globe award for best original song in a motion picture. Timberlake announced Prince had won for his rousing contribution to the Happy Feet soundtrack, Song of the Heart, but there was no stirring in the crowd.

As Timberlake stood on stage awkwardly looking around, it became increasingly clear that the purple one was not in the house.

“Well, I guess Prince couldn’t be here,” Timberlake said. Then the 6’1” singer crouched down in an attempt to emulate Prince’s 5’2” petite frame and added, “I’d like to accept this award on his behalf.” The audience erupted in laughter.

However, the "Raspberry Beret" singer didn’t seem to take offense to the jab. Later in the broadcast, when Hugh Grant informed the crowd that Prince had been stuck in L.A.’s notorious traffic, the diminutive musician stood up and took a belated bow.

Prince is a true talent and no matter what you say he will be around for years to come. He can use drum tracks if he prefers or he can play the drums on his tracks himself as well as piano and guitar. Don't know much about JT but I do know he won't be around as long as Prince until he gets a producer or producers and writers that will utilize his mediocre voice. Timbaland tracks will take him only so far and at some point people will tire of it like they always do. Then he'll be sitting at his doorstep like he was on Punk'd crying, calling his Mom saying "What am I going to do?" Justin knows his only hope is to stick with the R&B and rap population to succeed because he can't make it without them. He's probably hoping to score a hit with Prince.

Justin has sold 68 million records. 50 million with NSYNC and 18 million on his OWN. he is starting his own record label,has a top selling clothing line, and has starred in various films. All under the age of 30! Gasp...he will be around for a long time. It has nothing to do with black or white...like prince, justin crossed racial boundaries with his music. Prince was an innovator and someone who stuck out in a time when pop music overfilled the airwaves, and many artists struggled to separate themselves from the pack.

Nowadays, the record labels know exactly how to string along their little sheep, and JT is one such lure they use. Sure this bickering is just another media fabrication, but anyone supporting the "genius" and "talent" of big contemporary pop stars is basically admitting that they've been strung along by the hyputainment industry and will buy anything Hollywood wants to force feed them. Album sales mean nothing. Milli Vanilli and Vanilla Ice sold millions of records because the single factor that makes music appealing to the blinded masses in America is "how cool is it? and how cool will or won't I be if I do or don't listen to this?"

Music used to be about music, musicians used to love music, and fans used to care about the music. Now JT, his pop cronies, and their legion of fans have succeeded in making music just one more form of art wherein if there's no drama, there's no substance. SAD

you cant really compare JT to prince...prince has had like a 25 year career of course hes going to outsell JT...plus the music industry is completely horrendous now,as most people download music singles from itunes, or free from limewire, etc...its really hard to sell albums. even songs that are number one singles still translate to poor record sells.

Let's help Justin do math:

Prince = 39.5 million albums sold
Justin Timberlake = 5 million albums sold

And you could throw in that sales aren't everything, but in this case, they're actually the best chance Justin Timberlake has of competing with Prince. Prince is in the hall of fame, he writes all his music, and he owns his own record company. He was at one time so big that they made a very horrible movie about his life, but people loved the midget so much that it was a blockbuster.

Justin Timberlake is a creation of Timbaland. Every song he sings is about something Timbaland thinks is fascinating (For example, having sex... for an entire album).

Timberlake hasn't gone diamond yet. Timberlake doesn't show any signs of being the kind of artist who can. Timberlake doesn't show any signs of having any depth at all, he's just a Timbaland product.

You could make the argument that Timberlake hasn't been around as long as Prince and will one day sell that many albums, but looking at his current sales, that ain't likely. People are gonna get sick of that Timbaland sound soon, and unlike artists like Prince who create themselves because they can produce and play their own instruments and write songs, Timberlake is stuck there.

Anyway, I really think it's pretty funny for a boy band member who has sold 5 million records in his career to scream at a hall of famer "Hey! You ain't on the charts!" So? The guy's enjoying the later years. Call out Paul McCartney, Justin. He ain't on the charts either. lol

Prince has a three decade career, one of the top selling CD's of all-time in Purple Rain (15 million copies), and another diamond record to go along with that, and then you have all the platinum stuff too, as well as songs he's written for other people.

Justin Timberlake was in a boy band.

His first solo album sold a couple million. This second one, once again entirely a creation of Timbaland, hasn't been the breakout album he's hoped for, and for an artist like Timberlake, he needed a breakthrough album. As a former boyband member, and someone with very limited vocal skills who is relying on a hot producer to entirely create his sound, having this NOT be a breakthrough album might have been a dealbreaker. This guy could have only hoped to become Usher anyway.

Thanks to Timbaland, Justin is selling right now. He's a "today" artist. He's not a career artist. I once thought this guy might be the next MJ, but now I don't even think he can hope for Usher's levels, let alone Prince's.

And Prince may not be on the charts right now. He's the old guy. But Justin should maybe hold off on making these comments until he's sold 15 million albums in the U.S. That's what Prince sold in one album.

It's about respect... bottomline. Justin would not have had a CHANCE to bring SEXYback were it not for artists such as Prince... I am glad to see a GROWN MAN making music and making WAVES as an independent artist. Justin better be sitting at Prince's feet and taking notes. JT is a talented guy...
