David Hans Schmidt, who was arrested in July for trying to extort $1 million from Tom Cruise, has finally had his day in court.

Schmidt, who is known as the “Sultan of Sleaze,” was arrested in July for demanding money from Cruise, 45, in exchange for stolen private photos of his wedding to Katie Holmes.

Schmidt is pleading guilty to one count of transmitting threatening communications with the intent to extort.

Court papers obtained by Extra reveal that Schmidt “gives up the right to indictment by a grand jury and agrees to plead guilty to a single-count.”

The papers also state that in June 2007, Schmidt met with Cruise’s representatives and told them that “it would not look good for anyone if the photographs become public.”

In a meeting the following month, he also told the actor’s reps that he would “hunt down to hell and back anyone who crossed him.”

Schmidt, who is best known for distributing celebrity sex tapes, faces up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release and a substantial monetary fine.
