In unaired video footage, CBS News anchor Katie Couric pretends to fuss with her appearance the way Dan Rather once infamously did -- only to end up actually fussing about her appearance!
Trying to decide whether her coat should be open or closed, Couric, 50, jokes, "I'm going to be like Dan Rather on Youtube!" before teasingly deciding, "I think [open] looks good. I think this looks more anchor woman-ish."
As she and the crew laugh about the send-up, Couric says "Don't you think [Dan Rather] deserves a little payback?"
Rather, 76, Couric's predecessor, bashed his replacement's performance on the Evening News this summer, saying CBS had been "dumbing it down [and] tarting it up."
Couric alludes to that slight in the video, telling poducers, "This tart is ready to go!"
Of course, it turns out Couric is nowhere near ready to go, and has to play with her jacket buttons for a good while longer. She tells the crew, "I'm not vain. Just a little."

If anything, Couric made a total fool of herself - first it was a joke, then she was like possessed with that dang collar. She never stopped touching herself, never stoppped talking about herself - OMG, she is such a disappointment.

Her facial expressions and tone are not appropriate for the show. She comes of dull, plastic and phony, no matter what the subject is. I've no clue how anyone thought she could replace Dan Rather, unless as he said, they want to "tart" things up. She doesn't even pull that off.

what's the big deal? you people freak out about everything. it takes awhile to get going when filming, they're not waiting solely on her. and she knows her crew very well, she's just having fun with them and being casual like you are with your friends. there's nothing unprofessional about that.
