Keith Urban, who has battled cocaine and alcohol addiction, says wife Nicole Kidman saved his life. But her kids? Not so much.
While the 39-year-old country music star hopes one day to have children of his own, he says he doesn’t spend much time with Isabella, 14, and Connor, 12, Nicole’s two adopted kids from her marriage with Tom Cruise.
“I don’t get to see the kids as much as probably a lot of stepdads would, but it is a good relationship,” he told the UK’s Sunday Telegraph.
He seems to approach the stepkids the way he would take to goldfish. You kinda know they’re there. And halfway through a business trip, you’d probably remember to call your neighbor and ask him to feed them.
But he promises he’d be much more hands-on with his own progeny.
“I am looking forward to fatherhood,” he told the paper. “I have always wanted to be a good dad. My brother’s got two kids and he’s an excellent dad and I think we both have that sense of being home and being solid family guys.”
But don’t expect the 39-year-old former Mrs. Cruise to pose for any “baby bump” pictures any time soon.
“If we were plastered in the magazines all the time and sort of got pictures willingly, it would wear off and probably people wouldn’t want them so much,” he says, adding – in an obvious dig at his romantic predecessor, “I would just rather have a more quiet life, like we do. It is relatively quiet compared to most, I think.”

man you guys are stupid! Tom didn't have custody of the kids, Nicole did and actually it was a joint custody situation. They go to boarding school u doltz and Tom and Katie go to their games. They are not in regular school. Nicole gets them for certain holidays and so does Tom.
Read all the interview that Nicole and Tom have done and I don't mean in freaking People or US Weekly.

Keith needs to get his problems under control before he and Nicole think about having kids. Even though I don't like Tome,I can't really blame him for keeping his kids close and away from their new stepdad. Keith hasn't exactly proven himself to be trustworthy.

Who's to say that Nicole doesn't see her kids????!!! Maybe she just doesn't pimp them out for publicity? My goodness, Tom Cruise wants everyone to see what a great, "normal" guy he is, just cause Nicole doesn't jump in front of the spotlight about everything she does, doesn't make her a bad parent!!! My teenage daughter likes spending time with her dad for the record, he's "cooler" but we talk all the time, maybe that's how Nicoles relationship with her kids are??!!

Judge much, everyone???? Unless you have all read the Tom Cruise-Nicole Kidman divorce and custody settlement, then shut it! She seems to be trying to have a life with her husband. . . . she isn't jumping on couches, or married to someone young enough to be her child. . . let her be - lord knows that dealing with Keith's addiction issues has to be enough for her without the Einstein's on this site judging her every move . . .

I hope that the two will someday have kids. Then Tom will let Nicole see her other two children. But what I do not get is why Nicole and Keith do not fight to see their kids/step kids. I know darn well if my ex did that to me I would not back down, nothing is more important than my three boys.

since when are adopted kids not REALLY someone's kids? What backwards thinking idiots! Try telling that to someone who's only known one family, their adoptive family! Obviously some people are too ignorant to understand different types of bonds! Adopted kids are only "strangers" biologically! REAL families love, comfort, and care about each other...blood ties have NOTHING to do with those bonds....

I agree with Mrs K, no way did Keith Urban say he doesn't like Nicole's kids. Trying to insinuate more is just cruel. Keith has talked for years how much he wants kids. All he said was he doesn't get to see them as much as most stepdads probably do. Why? Because they live with their father. Nicole will be starting a film in Australia in a few weeks and will be there for 6 months. I'll be curious to see if the kids spend much time there.

I feel nothing but sympathy for the Cruise children. It's understandable that Nicole and Keith need time together as newly weds. But I can't imagine that the kids, especially Isabella, miss their mother. As a teenage girl, think about how she might feel not having her mom around, and possibly feel left out since Suri is biologically Tom and Katie's child. I wonder what kind of connection she feels to Katie and vice versa. I can't imagine that Nicole, as a mother, doesn't miss her children. It just goes to show you what kind of man Tom Cruise is. A real father would realize that his children need their mother just as much as their father, and not deny them that right. Furthermore, the author of the article should be ashamed for comparing children to goldfish. That's crass, cruel, and unnecessary. When it comes to divorce, it's always the children that are the real victims, no matter what happens afterwards.

KC is right, Tom owns (or at least controls) the kids. Hence Keith's comment about not getting to see them as much as most would.
We have no idea what her marriage to him was like but I have a hard time believing that she wouldn't want to be with her kids.

i wonder how he's going to have his own kids when it is completely obvious that his wife is sterile! look at tom cruise! they said he wsa sterile, and then he had a kid with katie (although i think the jury is still out on whether or not it's his). i think his sterility was just a cover story, but i can't really see him taking the rap for someone else. anyhow.....i don't think she's able to have kids. which is terribly sad. but then, my sister-in-law wasn't supposed to have kids, and she's 4 months pregnant, so ya never know.......

Hmmm...I won't comment on something I know nothing about (being a step-parent), but there's just something about Keith's attitude towards Nicole's kids I'm just not real crazy about. Can't put my finger on it. But I will say that I'd be surprised if these 2 ever become parents. Honestly. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just enjoying each other's company.
