Kelly Clarkson may have won over millions of fans when she conquered American Idol, but her latest album has failed to win over Clive Davis, the head of her record label, RCA.

According to an Internet report, Davis, 75, wanted to scrap the singer's upcoming third album, My December, because he didn’t like the songs. (The first single, “Never Again,” only debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.)

A source close to Clarkson, 25, tells Us that although the feud was “overblown,” there were creative differences.

“Kelly cowrote all the songs, but Clive wanted control and the label felt there wasn’t a monster hit,” says the insider, adding that the process “was hard on Kelly. The label was withholding the record. She gave it to them in January and it took five months to get a release date.” (The CD hits shelves June 26.)

The source adds: “Kelly was pretty hurt.”

“It’s a struggle that happens all the time,” the source says.

Hits magazine editor Ted Volk adds: “Davis has a great track record. When you hear stuff like that, you don’t know what the truth is.”

Clarkson’s rep has no comment.
