24 Star Kiefer Sutherland Starts 48-Day Jail Sentence

Kiefer Sutherland was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to 48 days in jail for a Sept. 24 DUI arrest. A court spokesman tells Usmagazine.com that the 24 star, who was booked into jail immediately following a court hearing, is mandated to serve the entire sentence at the Glendale City Jail before March 30, 2008.
Sutherland, 40, was pulled over by police after making an illegal U-turn. When breath-tested by police, he reportedly blew twice the legal blood alcohol level of .08. (Sutherland had been spotted earlier that night drinking beer at L.A. nightclub Area.)
Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department confirms to Us that Sutherland was booked into jail at 5:46 p.m. Wednesday and "will be assigned a work detail that will involve kitchen detail and laundry duty.
"There is no early release. It's a must-do 48 days deal. The only person that can shorten the sentence is the judge, and I do not see that ever happening."

After entering a no-contest plea on Oct. 9, Sutherland released the following statement:
"I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24 and at 20th Century Fox. I appreciate the support and concern that has been extended to me these last weeks both personally and professionally.”

I am a big fan of 24 and Keifer! 48 days in jail is probably better than the prosecution "the girls" had in the press about thier incidents. 48 days (24x2) coincidence? Who gets 48 days for a DUI. Most people get 1 nite and 3 day weekend somewhere. What really happened?

Seems like a double standard with the court system. This goes to show that men are definitely treated differently than women. You do the crime you should do the time regardless what gender you are. It's about fairness.

I am confused. Why did Paris, Lindsay and Nicole (and even Britney) not serve MORE TIME for their offenses, when Kiefer has to serve 48 days? I am glad he seems to be sorry for what he's done and hopefully will get some help for his alcoholism once he's done with jail. The 3 aforementioned bimbos obviously didn't learn anything (except for Nicole-kudos on her charity!)
Kiefer seems to be the only one of this group that will learn from his mistakes and is accepting of his punishment. Alcoholism is a serious problem, my family has dealt with it as have I. I wish Kiefer the best and hope he deals with his demons. Believe me, life is a million times better sober.

6:28- MOST people don't get off w/ that. MOST people have to spend anywhere from 3-30 days in jail. at LEAST one. yea....if he's a man, he'll take the whole sentence and not try to get out of it. and, dude, that guy is HOT.

Why is he serving more time than Lindsay (2 DWI's) or Nicole? It's unfair how they got off easy and Paris & Kiefer did not. Paris only had one offense and most people get off with that.
